Over time, he was befriended by Charles Xavier, the leader of the Institute, and Scott Summers. Scott was only a few years old than Matt. One morning, Xavier was passing down the hallway, greeting students as he had always done. As he passed Matt and said, "Good Morning," Matt muttered back in a hushed tone "Good Morning Professor." Xavier had heard the words escape Matt's lips and knew there was more to the boy than Matt led people to believe.
As time went on, Matt became friendlier and less shy around people. He trained with Scott (Cyclops) and Logan (Wolverine) in the Danger Room, learned about science from Hank McCoy (Beast), and had help in controlling his powers from Xavier.
When Matt was eighteen years old, he was still a resident and student at the mansion. One day, he was outside sitting under a large oak tree his eyes closed as he slept. A breeze rustled through his hair and he opened his eyes to see a young girl he had never met before. After getting to his feet and greeting her, he learned that her name was Izumi. She had come to the mansion, like every other mutant, to learn to control her powers. The two quickly became friends and over time much more. Currently at the Institute, Matt is an Xmen and helps train young ones in the Danger Room. Life is hectic and confusing at the Institute as each day brings some form of trouble, but he gets through it with Izumi by his side.
