Turbidity

Turbidity is the measure if how clear the water is. The higher the turbidity, the cloudier it is. Suspended solids raise the turbidity of the water. The Clearer the water, the more life you will find in a lake or stream. High turbidity can be caused by waste discharge and abundant bottom feeder fish.

Abiotic Influences: waste discharge, clay and silt contribute to the abiotic influences. Water that has a high turbidity, can trap the suns warmth and cause oxygen levels to fall.

Biotic Influences: an abundant amount of bottom feeder fish can cause high turbidity. They can stir up all the sediment at the bottom of the stream or lake and it will make the water more cloudy.
