Michael acquired the priceless ATV catalogue in 1985 (the ATV catalogue contains over 1,000 songs including 251 Beatles titles). In 1995 Michael and Sony Music merged their catalogues to form SONY/ATV. Michael and Sony shared the revenue, a 50/50 split of the merged catalogue earnings. When Michael leaves Sony Music, he's walking away with half of the catalogue that contains thousands of songs and will continue to make money while he�s on another label. Sony Music boss TOMMY MOTTOLA didn't think that Michael would be able to uphold his agreement nor that he would leave Sony Music one day (as a free agent).
