THE SILVER TIGER
OH, Did I scare you, I'm sorry. I've been practicing to sound like Dad!!!!!!!! Yeah, I know, you're right, that wasn't me. That was my Dad. But you just wait and see, one of these days, I WILL SOUND JUST LIKE HIM!!!!
You know, the tiger is the Mascot for a lot of Sports Teams. The two most important to me are The Lamar Tigers of Lamar High School, Lamar, Missouri and The Nevada Tigers of Nevada High School, Nevada, Missouri, two High School Football Teams that square off once each year to see which one will take the Coveted Prize, The Silver Tiger, back to their school to be displayed for the entire year. The teams affectionately call The Silver Tiger, Oscar. This is a tradition that began almost seventy years ago. Their first game was played in 1933 with Nevada High taking Oscar home with them.
Of the fifty three games played between 1933 and 1991, The Lamar High School Tigers gained possession seventeen times. Lamar held possession from 1991 until the next time the two schools met in competition in 1997 in which The Nevada High School Tigers took possession and still hold it today. Due to the fact that Lamar is a Division II school and Nevada a Division III, they are not able to play every year as they did in the past. One thing is for sure, Oscar is a very beloved mascot and treasured by both schools.
Don't ask me how it started, I was't around then, but I am going to try to find out and when I do, I will tell you all about it, promise. So, you keep coming back to visit, 'cause one of these days, you will see the whole story, right here.
Boy, I can't wait until I am old enough to be a Mascot. I asked Dad if I could be one now, but he said, "Son, you better wait until you are big enough to defend yourself, you know it gets kind of crazy out there and you might get run over by the big boys". Oh well, I suppose he's right. I want to do my team proud, uh, when I get one, then I will be Just like my DAD.
