Bulls Sign Pair of Veteran Guards
The Chicago Bulls signed veteran point guards Rick Brunson and Doug Overton to one-year deals worth the minimum salary. Both will compete for the Bulls 3rd-string point guard position.
Brunson is a five-year veteran who has averaged 2.4 points and 1.8 assists, and Overton is a 10-year veteran who has averaged 4.6 points and 2.1 assists. Only one of the players will be expected to make the team.
Mason's Surgery Successful
Good news for the Bulls today as rookie Roger Mason Jr. had successful surgery on his right shoulder. He should be able to start basketball drills in three months.
Mason Jr. Injured
Bulls second-round draft pick Roger Mason Jr. is expected to miss four to five months of this upcoming NBA season after an injury to his right shoulder. The injury occured at Hoops The Gym, where Bulls third year guard Jamal Crawford tore his ACL last season, missing 59 games. The Bulls may now have to sign a free agent point guard or trade for one, as they are over the cap, and their current roster now stands at 12. It is being reported that Bulls GM Jerry Krause has been in contact with John Crotty, who averaged 7 points and 3 assists last season for Utah. Eddie Gill and Eldridge Recasner are also possibilities. (Sept. 10, 2002)
Bulls Add 2nd Assistant
The Bulls have today added Mike Wilhelm as an assistant coach/advance scout. Last season, Wilhelm was a scout for the Denver Nuggets and has also spent time at Cleveland. (Sept. 5, 2002)
Rose Escapes Carjacking Attempt
At 3:20 am in Brentwood, Los Angeles, Bulls star Jalen Rose escaped an attempted carjacking when he stopped for a traffic light. A passenger in the car, though, spent the day in hospital after being shot in the face, but the wound is not life-threatning. The passenger is believed to be Rose's chef and a child-hood friend. (Sept. 3, 2002)
Bulls Sign Donyell Marshall
The Bulls have signed free agent forward Donyell Marshall to a 3-year deal. Marshall was signed one day after Matt Harpring, the Bulls' original target was signed by the Utah Jazz, Marshall's former team.
Marshall brings career averages of 12 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists. Last season for Utah, Marshall averaged 15 points and 8 rebounds, second only to Karl Malone. He ranked third in the NBA in field-goal percentage at 51.9 percent.
Marshall is expected to challenge second-year player Tyson Chandler for the starting power forward position, or could start at small forward with Jalen Rose sliding to shooting guard. Marshall, I think, is ready to contribute, whereas Chandler could be a year away before being a regular contributor (ie. 15pts, 10 reb nxt yr)
In my opinion, Marshall and Rose should be the starting forwards, with Eddy Curry at centre, and the backcourt of Trenton Hassell and rookie Jay Williams. This is a good signing for the Bulls because it is another veteran big man that they needed to address for the offseason, and while he probably won't go out and get 20 points a game, he will be a good mentor for the young Bulls big men. (Aug. 17, 2002)

Bulls Sign Corie Blount
The Bulls have signed free agent forward/centre Corie Blount to a 1-year deal.
Last season, Blount appeared in 72 games for the Philadelphia 76ers, starting 21 games, averaging 4 points and 5 rebounds, shooting 46 percent from the field..
Blount was originally drafted by the Bulls in the first round of the 1993 NBA Draft. He has also played with the L.A. Lakers, Cleveland, Phoenix and Golden State.
Corie Blount should add veteran leadership to the likes of Eddy Curry and Tyson Chandler and also defensive pressure. He will likely be a backup to Eddy Curry at centre, or even perhaps start the season until Curry can step up after a poor Summer League. (July 31, 2002)
BULLS DRAFT 2002
In NBA Draft 2002, the Bulls came away with Jay Williams (No. 2), Roger Mason Jr. (No. 31) and Lonny Baxter (No. 44). (Jun. 26)
