April 13th-Slow Day
Today was
Sunday and I really didn’t have a plan of action so it ended up being a pretty
slow day. Truthfully though I didn’t
really mind because I was happy to have a rest day of sorts. Besides, the upcoming week should be quite long
and challenging. I got up pretty late
(around 1pm) because I’d gone to sleep late the night before, but since nothing
was doing it didn’t really matter. Dad
had left in the morning for his one week business trip to Houston, Texas; Eri
was out messing about I imagine; and Ryoichi.well…it was actually the sound
(noise) of prepubescent boys that disturbed my slumber as there were about 5 of
them stationed in the room directly across from mine have the time of their
lives (it sounded like anyway…not like I could understand what they were saying
to see what the fuss was about.) When I
got downstairs I had a leisurely breakfast of an omelet (well…it was really egg
over a pile of flavored rice with some chunks of stuff thrown in for good
measure). As I was eating, Eri came
lumbering in and we watched some TV for a while. After that the day was pretty slow. I spent a good part of the day looking about my Japanese for Busy
People Volume 2 book with all my other books spread around the bed to help me
out. Occasionally I would go downstairs
to ask mom something if I had a question…see…that’s what’s pretty convenient
about studying something in a place where every single person around you is an
expert and happy to teach you! I also
listened to quite a bit of Ayumi Hamasaki and Chihiro Onitsuka while I studied
and talked to some of my Japanese cohorts online. The climax of the day came when we all had dinner together and it
was CURRY RICE! If you’re my friend or
family member (which I assume you are, because if you weren’t you wouldn’t be
reading this webpage or even know about it), you know how I feel about curry
rice…カレー大好きだよ! (kare~ dai
suki da yo) (I really like curry!) We
also had a yummy fruit salad that had…apples, bananas, and oranges in it with yogurt
so that was tasty. There were also some
little fish that looked kinda like sardines but they didn’t have a strong
flavor and they were bigger than sardines.
I tried to eat one, but when I saw that mom, Ryoichi, and Eri were
eating the entire thing….guts, bones, head…etc…I was kind of turned off by it
and hid my head (the fish’s) under my napkin.
Oh, I should probably tell you…we don’t use napkins in Japan…just
tissues. I feel like buying them some
nice cloth napkins to do them a favor, but maybe they’re be offended so I’ll
just let them stay with the status quo.
Like I said before, next week (the one that starts tomorrow) should be
really intense. I believe I’m starting
my 部活 (bukatsu)
(club activity) tomorrow. This is also
the first full week of school for me (Monday to Friday). Well, after tomorrow I’ll be sure to tell
you how my first Monday at Miyasho went!
Laterz!
