~ Happy Halloween ~
It's dark outside, a full moon is in sight
My costume is on, it's halloween night
I'm ready to go, not really scared
but there is that spooky house, do I dare go there?
It sits back from the road, surrounded by trees
When I think about it, I go weak in the knees
They say the old lady, who lives in that shack
Is really a witch, with a mean black cat
She uses potions and spells, so the story goes
And doesn't like children, but who really knows
I met my friends, down the street
They ask if I'm ready, to trick-or-treat
Off we go, running door to door
We're not done yet, we want more
But there's only one house left, and we all knew who
So we sat and thought, do we really want to?
How bad can she be, is she really that mean?
All of a sudden, we heard a scream
Someone was running, away from that shack
He yelled to us "don't go there", we all stepped back
More curious than ever, we just had to know
Inch by inch we moved foward, ever so slow
The closer we got, the faster my heart would pound
I kept hearing funny noises, constantly looking around
That dirty old shack, came into view
Broken boards & cracked windows, it would even scare you
Spiders and cob webs were everywhere
The steps were creaking, all I could do was stare
In front of the door, we all stood still
The thought of knocking, gave me a chill
So my friend used his flashlight, to tap on that door
I had never been, this nervous before
As the door opened, I thought "should we run"?
Then we saw the old lady, her hair in a bun
She wore a black dress, with broken shoes
Looked at the four of us, and said "how do you do"
We stood quiet and stunned, for a little while
Then she gave us, a very warm smile
She talked of the husband, she once had
How she had lost him to cancer, it was oh so sad
After he passed, she felt so alone
Lived like a hermit, in her little home
She knew of the rumors, that went around town
She was saddened by this, as she bowed her head down
We all vowed, to remain friends
Up until, the very end
We returned to her house, to visit everyday
Cleaned up her yard, even fixed her window panes
Then the whole town, began to pitch in and try
To fix up that shack, while she watched and cried
In the end that shack, was a beautiful home
A huge garden outside, where her new friends could roam
It just goes to show you, don't believe what you hear
For rumors can hurt someone, someone very dear!
