HIGH POINTS: Amon-Ra, I Am Two. LOW POINTS: None
A short EP released by Dan Swano as a favor to some guy. It's kind of like Nightingale in the melodic metal with some prog sort of thing (in fact one of the Nightingale songs on I was originally recorded for this project), but it's heavier than Nightingale. There are only three songs here, taking up a total of about eighteen and a half minutes, but man, this has got to be the absolute BEST EP I've ever heard. Yeah, it's kind of disappointing that we didn't get more than three songs, but when they're three songs that are this good, Odyssey can still be a satisfying piece.
The first song, "I Am Two," has got one of the best choruses I've heard on a metal album. It's bound to be in your head for days. It's also the heaviest on the album, but not without great keyboards to back it up. "I Carry A Secret" is the heaviest song here, with the guitars moving at a melodic slow pace with plenty of great riffs to back it all up. A great guitar solo comes in as well to make the song altogether another little masterpiece. The closing "Amon-Ra" is an epic of over seven minutes, certainly the most progressive entry here, changing around all the time, but still focused on the main riff to the song. Odyssey is another great release from Swano, certainly for those who already enjoy his work, but because it's so short this isn't the place you want to go to get started.
