THE VERY BEST... AND BEYOND (1992)

(reviewed by Casey Brennan)

This is the greatest hits album to get if you don't want to venture too far into Foreigner's back catalog. Their are over a dozen hits on here, with three boring 1992 reunion songs thrown in, which are unintelligently placed at the beginning of this hits package. Besides those new generic songs, all the major hits from their active decade of 1977-87 are scattered throughout here. Basically they are a stadium and arena rock band that are kind of similar to Styx in style, except with a simpler and more basic approach to their songs. The hardrocking hits "Hot Blooded", "Double Vision", and "Head Games" are here, along with the dynamic piano ballads "Cold As Ice" and "Feels Like The First Time". The danceable beats of "Urgent" and the rocking "Juke Box Hero" are other catchy and noteworthy cuts. Songs like "That Was Yesterday" and "Say You Will" from their mid-80's period are softer and more generic, because of their big power ballad choruses and corny lyrics. A good selection of hits though, from this popular late 70's/early 80's hard rocking band.

OVERALL RATING: 7
