Mormonism Examined
The Teachings of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints
Under the Microscope

"What think ye of Christ? Who's son is He?" (Matthew 22:42)

Welcome to Mormonism Examined. This page will show you the basic differences existing between Mormonism and Christianity, hopefully accomplishing two things. One, give you a firm, basic grasp on the truth about who Jesus Christ is, and isn't, and what it means to know Him. Two, give you a basic understanding of essential Mormon thought and practice, so that your interest will be sparked enough that you will look into this further with the Bible and some of the resources listed later.

Introduction:

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, better known to most as The Mormon church, was founded on the teachings of Joseph Smith in the mid-1800's. Joseph said that in 1820 he received a vision of God telling him that all of the world was apostate, their pastors corrupt, and that he (Joseph) would be the one to bring the world back to a true Christian faith. This "First Vision" is the foundation for what now is one of the world's largest religious movements. With almost 10 million members world wide, including over 5 million in the US, this once small sect is on pace to reach 250 million by the year 2080.

On the whole, Mormons appear to be good Christian people, who not only are a positive influence on communities, but who posses a very attractive faith and lifestyle as well. And the majority of that observation is very true. However, not all of it is. The reality is that Mormonism is not a Christian faith. The LDS church claims it is, that they did actually restore the gospel to an apostate world. And most will defend that claim fiercely, going to great lengths to appear as such. This site will briefly examine their claim, focusing on their over-all theology, Christology, and the claims of their founder, Joseph Smith Jr.
