Ballet:
Classical theatrical dancing based on the rules and vocabulary of the French
Jazz:
Based on the technique of ballet but usu. done to faster music and movement is more relaxed.
Count:
Used to count the rhythm of foot movements and weight changes, or to count the beats of the music
Rhythm: T
he effects of beats,accents, measures, grouping of notes into beats.
Basic Terminology:
Ballet
Plie: To bend
-Demi: half
-Grande: a drink size at starbucks/ big
Chaine turn: chain or links
Pirouette: A complete turn on one leg (spin)
Grand Jete: A long horizontal jump, usu. forward, starting from one leg and landing on the other (leap)
Jazz
- Jazz walks
- Pas de bouree

Grapevine: A continous traveling step pattern to the side with the crosses behind and/or in front
Locomotion:
Movement of the body from one place to another
Isolation: Movement of one part of the body independently from the rest.
Jazz Square:
Step right over left, step back left, step right, step forward left.
