Popstars the "Fly on the Wall" documentry about thousands of applicants battling it out to be one of only 5 people to star in a new group drew to a conclusion on 3rd  Februrary 2001 when the "final 5" were named. Obviously the programme was filmed in advance and the scenes we saw on saturday were approximately 6 weeks before christmas 2000 but have only just been revealed. The 5 finalists were NOEL SULLIVAN, DANNY FOSTER,  MYLEENE KLASS, KIM MARSH  and SUZANNE SHAW (as background pic) Congratulations to them all and i personally hope they enjoy every sucess that comes their way. Deepest commiserations to the 5 that didnt quite make it and all the other hopefuls that gave it their best shot although some will become popular im sure.
Noel, 20 yrs old from Cardiff  has been working  hard on his physique to meet the bands required "sexy" image. He will be kitted out in para jacket and combat boots which is a far cry from his male voice choir days in Cardiff who were called "Only men Aloud"  Previous work prior to popstars included working as a fishmonger and a waiter. Impressing the judges from day one and remaining calm right through, even in the later stages made us laugh when everytime he called his mum to give progress reports we heard screams of joy from his family...... genuinly a nice lad
Danny, 21 has been hitting the gym big time after being told by his bosses to "Beef" up his appearance. Danny was convinced from an early stage in the auditions that he wasnt going to make it, expecting rejection every time but infact, he impressed judges from an early stage
Myleene, 22 originally from Norfolk but living in Wood Green, London  has updated her image by adding blonde streaks to her gorgeous long dark hair. She was absolutely delighted, as were the other four, to make it into the final line up. Her half Filipina mum Bong said her daughter had always dreamed of being a star. Although popstars is her first big break she is no stranger to performing alongside the pro's. She had a minor role in "Miss Saigon" and has toured as a backing singer on "Cliff Richards" Millenium prayer tour. She has even had singing appearences with "KD Lang" and "Micheal Ball". The judges were a bit concerned with her at first as she turned up over 2 days late at the start and didnt really bond at first, she showed other strengths and soon won them over....
Kym, 24 from Wigan Lancashire (Mother of 2) has dyed sections of her hair bright red as part of the bands image. She won the judges over with her "Girl nex door" charm but will probably stun fans by wearing spike healed boots and fishnet tights... down boys
Suzanne, 19 from Bury, Lancashire  has jazzed up her blonde hair by having hair extensions giving her long flowing blonde locks. She has a bubbly personality and although she impressed the judges from an early stage she was under a lot of pressure to strengthen her voice, which she did and showed her ability to handle critisism in a positive manner and to improve,  making her a good choice for the group. Prior to popstars she spent 18 months singing in an ABBA tribute band and has also appeared in theatre and musical productions
The judges had a very difficult job to do especially at the latter part of the auditions as there had been a lot of bonding and fun had, but unfortunately getting the group down to 5 was a very difficult and controversal thing to acheive without upsetting and surprising some people. I think on the whole they did a very good job and feel the nickname nasty Nigel isnt really apt as he also showed signs of upset at informing people they hadnt made it.
