Simply Deadly

The sound of a rapid locomotion cleaved through the silence of the lush green countryside. Radiant beams of sunlight reflected off its polished silver-lined roof causing any onlookers to squint their eyes together, lest they lose their eyesight all together. The silver blur suddenly disappeared into a tunnel and was consumed in darkness.

A pair of soft green eyes stared lazily at the black mass outside of a tinted window. With an elbow propped up on the windowsill supporting a tranquil face, the boy sighed softly against the transparent wall. The glass drizzled with a shallow mist but quickly disappeared as the boy pulled his face away.

It was only a week ago that he agreed to leave. His mother had insisted that going here would be in his best interest. Not that the school he went to before was bad; it was a decent public school, with lots of ethnic diversity and different social class, your everyday high school. But with a persistent mother telling how wonderful it was for her son to be enrolling in a private school, the boy had to agree sooner or later.

So here he was, sitting by himself, on a train, traveling miles away from home. Shifting in his seat, he drew out a piece of paper from his shorts pocket. Unfolding it with care, he slowly skimmed through the letter.

It was from the headmaster of this new school. The letter of enrollment confirmed that he was the new scholar student transferred to attend at Castroths Minor: For the Gifted and Talented. How the school thought he was gifted and talented was beyond him. Although his grades were greatly above average, his skills in sports and other activities were poorly developed to the point that he thought a basketball was the one played by foot. Yes, most certainly he was gifted.

A sudden voice from above broke his train of thought, This train will be arriving at Castroth shortly. This would be an end terminal. All passengers please disembark at this endpoint. The door will open on the left. Thank you for riding on the AOM train line.

The voice on the intercom stopped and a soft classical tune began to play. Drowning out the background music like he did since the beginning of the trip, the teenage boy began to gather his belongs from the compartments above. As he grabbed for his last item, the train halted quietly to a stop and three chimes echoed from the intercom. The door swished open on the left side, and a gush of warm air diffused through the room. Hurriedly, the boy headed out of the train and stepped onto the concrete platform.

With haste, he got through the stations gates and turned onto a tree-lined sidewalk. With a wave of his hand, a taxi stopped in front of him. Getting in, he told the driver his destination and firmly closed the door.

The ride to the school was quite amusing. It turned out that the driver was a humorous man in his fortys who gave the boy a small tour of the passing town on the way to Castroths Minor. Arriving at the grand gate of the boarding school, the youth paid the driver and got off with a laughing smile. Walking up the winding sidewalk, his heart thumped with excitement.

The front yard was striking. Embellished was an understatement. Red roses lined the middle of the two-way sidewalk with a patch of white roses at every few feet. Weeping willows lined the outer part of the pavement, their long branches whipped to and fro with the constant breeze. The path ended upon a stunning roundabout made up of five grandiose fountains.

Four white marble fountain sprinkled mists of water into a clear pool opposite of the others. Each had a statue of a young maiden with a jug scooping the water from the depths below. Over the maidens body was a giant leaf of a lily rooted firmly to the base, shading the woman from the shining sun.

In the center of it all was a black marble fountain. A figure of a young man stood at the top with his hands outstretched to his sides. In his palms were two plates where water spewed from eight tiny holes. Entrapping the man was a serpent who was curled around one of the mans legs all the way up to his neck. Out of the snakes mouth came a long stream of water that fell toward the tilted crescent-shaped dish.

Enthralled by the sight, the boy almost tripped over the staircase that led to the front entrance of the school. Chuckling at his clumsiness, he walked swiftly up the stairs and entered the large glass double doors. Again he was struck with a magnificent sight of the schools lobby. Like an elegant hotel, a crystal chandelier draped from the ceiling. The floor was also marble, polished enough that a persons reflection could almost be seen like a mirror.

First timer? the voice made the young boy snapped to attention. Twirling around he saw a young girl with black hair and soft copper highlights smiling from ear to ear at him.

Uhyes, the nervous boy answered timidly.

Well, then, come over here so I can register you before you have a heart attack from the view, the girl teased.

Blushing, the teen nodded and went over to the counter. Welcome to Castroths Minor. I am Larissa Chu, currently on office duty for this period. May I have your letter of enrollment please?

Blushing at the sudden change in formality in the girl, the boy dug through his pocket quickly and drew out the piece of paper. With a quick smile and a slight nod of confirmation, the girl took the paper and typed frantically on the computer next to her.

Your registration is complete. If you would please wait a moments for your schedule and room number to print, that would be a great convenience, the girl name Larissa politely stated.

Hearing a sound of a beep, the raven-haired girl got up and headed toward its source. Returning, she handed him a piece of paper and a small blue card. The sheet of paper is your schedule and your room access code. The blue card would be your room card. To get into your room, you would need to slide that blue card into the lock and punch in the access code. Do you have any questions?

The green-eyed youth processed the information and shook his head. He was about to turn and leave when he was pulled back to the counter by his collar. Hey! Im not done! I have a question even if you dont! I dont really think I can call you first timer forever, the girl implied with huge smile, I like to ask for your name, please,

The boy blushed yet again to another change in personality of the hyperactive girl. Brushing his beige hair back behind his ear, he spoke soft yet clearly, My name is Teaque. Its nice to meet you, Larissa,
