Clive Barker Random: Review of His Novels and other Works
¡@
1.Calilee
What
I wanna talk about first is Clive Barker¡¦s ¡§Galilee¡¨.
I
finished reading the book eventually, but I ended up not knowing what the ending
is about.+_+
Actually,
the story isn¡¦t so bad, I like the members of the Barbarossa family a lot,
they¡¦re very interesting as characters, especially Maddox, Zabrina, Marrietta,
Nicodemus and Cesaria etc. and the stories/battles inside the Geary clan are good too. I
mean not many families can be like this u know.
And
then the problem of "Galilee" comes, Rachael and Galilee.
I
found that they¡¦re just too weak and uninteresting as the main characters in
the story damnit.
Rachael is just like almost all of Barker¡¦s heroines in his many other novels:
beautiful, strong and positive, but then nothing special. And Galilee¡Khe
isn¡¦t even as unique as the other Barbarossas, you know all of the other
Barbarossas(even some of the Gearys) has quite a story to tell, but unluckily
not Galilee. The story of his past sucked like hell.*sighs* beside I can¡¦t
find he did a single thing in the novel that might impress me. How
come!???*sighs*
And
I didn¡¦t find an
impressive thing in the romance between Rachael and Galilee too, I duno whether it¡¦s some difference btw western and eastern
cultures when it comes to romance. But as a eastern reader, the ¡§love¡¨ btw
the two doesn¡¦t even look believable, i don't even have a clue how come they'd
fall in love with each other,it sucks¡K
And
what happen to the end can anyone tell me? I know Barker¡¦s planning to write a
sequel after ¡§Galilee¡¨ but such a half ass ending can¡¦t work! I feel like
a fool after I spent quite a number of hours to read through such a brink to end
up in a ending like *this*!
If
u have different opinion, plz tell me. Maybe I¡¦d overlooked something I duno.
But if so, correct me.
PS: the reading of " Calilee" is hardly a satisfied one, but more reviews will come...i swear they will be better than "Galilee".
