 What is Urban Heat?
7-1 Mizuki Ishii

Urban heat is when air in a major city is 6 F~8 F hotter than other rural areas. Some major cities where urban heat is occuring are Baltimore, Phoenix, Tucson, Washington, Shanghai, and Tokyo. As roads, buildings, factories and people increase, temperature rises. Scientists says that is because there are fewer trees in the cities and buildings made of dark materials abosorb the heat instead of reflecting. If the temperature keeps on increasing, we have to use more cooling purposes which is bad for the environment.

Causes of Urban Heat
7-2 Haruka Shimoto

Urban heat are caused by many things that are around us. In the cities, we have paved roads that attracts the sun, and makes it hot. Also, the roofing can be changed to cooler roofing. Which this means, maybe getting lighter colors, or changing the material. These are the things that cause the urban heat.

Effects of Urban Heat
7-2 Haruka Shimoto

Urban heat effects the atmosphere in mostly cities like tokyo. Urban heat makes cities become hotter, than in the suburbs. This is mostly because of tall buildings, and pavement. Also, using more and more uses of the cooling electricity will make the air dirty, and it will increase the smog risk. This means that since it gets very hot, with the urban heat, we use more air condition. This irrates eyes, asthma, and causes permanent lung damage.

Poem
7-1 Mizuki Ishii 7-2 Haruka Shimoto

I'm in Tokyo, it's burning hot.
Sweating, sweltering and a sizzling day.
I know it's called urban heat,
which is caused by the radiation.
The black pavements in major cities
don't reflect but absorb the light.
It's a very big issue
because you use more cooling purposes,
which causes the air pollution and
making the issue bigger.
I hope that the temperature
in Tokyo wouldn't rise so much.
