our gray rainbow

together we sit, nestled together, trying, in vain, to build a facade. both of us, for one hanging moment, close our translucent eyes. his open arms smell strongly of a thick, enveloping spice. the veil of my lids is comforting, and the lucently evaporating colors slowly grasp my vision. blocks of scarlet and amber dance across my blinded sensibility. he purges the tainted light and my personal kaleidoscope of muted shades is suddenly evicted. touching his cheek, i raise my painted lids. the world plunges forward, and i grab onto the blurred gray lines attaching black to white. ripping away shards of gray, the color drains from his eyes. warm pools of light flicker blindly in our eyes, and we bathe in the shadows of the resonant gray.
