In this world where I stand
not amongst the c
hosen few
I don't drive a fa
ncy car
never acquired the taste fo
r caviar
Paris
never traveled quite tha
t far
looked in the
sky
realized that
I
can't name on
e star
raised by a sing
le mother
me and my youn
ger brother
took the option of staying
strong for oneanother
no strangers to
"public aid"
that's how ou
r rent got paid
I was my
mother's maid
her master chef
and receptionist too
my pleasure
to help momma through
her stug
gles with motherhood
I did all I could
the present came to change us all
and some came t
o rise
while others
came to fall
Our struggles
of yesterday I fear
now appear
the good times
its extreme I mean
the way we all fell
like the domino effect
all catching our personal versions of hell
makes my head s
well
with sorrow

praying for bighter
tomorrow
when I'm no longer forced to
the position of borrow
when my brother's no
longer on the grind
when momma stops smokin a
ll the crack-cocaine she finds
When I locate
peace of mind
in this wo
rld where I stand
not amo
ngst the chosen few!
