Since Conan looks like a child, he is not allowed to go wander around for investigation, and no body listen to his thoughts. Because of that Conan has employed some brilliant strategies in order to get what he wants.

The first thing you will notice is that he put Kogoro into sleep and use his voice to solve the cases. However, before solving the case, he still has to investigate. The most acceptable excuse Conan use to get the permission for moving freely is going to the toilet. All he has to say "Gotta go to the toilet" and he gets all the freedom he wants. When the police officers are annoyed with Conan movements around crime scene, he dares to tell them that he forgot something around and he had to get it back.

Furthermore, when Conan needs to go outside the house for a while to investigate about something important, all he has to say is "I'll stay with Professor Agasa to play a video game".
