In junior high and high school, when most of my current friends watched 120 Minutes, cried with Morrissey over meat being murder and attended Amnesty International meetings, I was immersed in a similar, harder-rocking but less cerebral and much cheesier world, watching Headbangers Ball and swiping Chicken Tenders during my shift at Burger King. New friends are often surprised, impressed, and/or amused to hear of this metal youth. Yes. It is impressive. But I put on my shredded acid-washed jeans one leg at a time, the same as everybody else in my Jersey world did. Let's take a look back. (Highly recommended viewing: Heavy Metal Parking Lot,) |
