Two of Three

The sky holds the sun and the moon. Curiously I can observe two signs. Away from the sunlight I eventually feel tired and lazy. When I am down spirited stuck indoors under artificial lights, I often think I can just go out on a nice day and feel more vibrant. I wonder what makes me feel alive, what has this kind of power? When the skies are clear, a blue canvas as far as my eye can see, I feel awake in a shower of warmth. An atmosphere of energy revives me as if it were fresh fuel replacing the spent. Every once in a while I snag a glimpse of the unavoidable sun and am instantly reminded why I don't look at it; sort of like the faint memory of agony left from touching a hot stove as a kid. The sun is too bright; it is simply too powerful to look at.

From the glimpses I've caught, I know the sun is a ball of pure light powerful enough to spread that much life across the entire world - to everyone. I look off to the side and notice the moon. It's bright like the sun and bearable. Looking at the moon, as I've been taught, is actually looking at the sun's light, a reflection. While it's not the entire sun's light, only part, it still gives me a better impression of the sun. I look right at the moon and contemplate the light source it is reflecting. I watch the moon knowing that, while it's not looking at the entire sun, it still reflects enough light for the whole world to see. How potent must this sun really be to be capable of lighting the world with a partial reflection?

The moon isn’t always showing all that it is able to. At times the earth cast a shadow blocking some of the sunlight. While at other times the world doesn’t block any light. A full moon displays as much light as is possible for the body to reflect. These are all facts that I’ve been told were true since my earliest science classes. It all seems true, but I still wonder whether it’s true; "is the moonlight actually the sunlight being reflected?" Since I can’t tell for myself, I guess I'll just have to believe.

If there were a reoccurring sign above earth that hinted something formerly inconceivable, would anybody notice?
