The Research essay is to be typed
(or word-processed), double-spaced, and contain 1" margins on all sides.
Use print Times New Roman 12.
2. The essay must have a title page
which identifies the specific assignment, the author, the course, the
instructor, the date. Make certain the appearance is good. No dirt, no crumpled, dog-eared
paper, no faded, hard-to-read print. NO HANDWRITTEN CORRECTIONS OR ADDITIONS ARE
PERMITTED ON THE FINAL DRAFT. PROOFREAD YOUR ROUGH DRAFTS AND CORRECT OR ADD AT
THAT POINT. USE THE SPELL CHECK!!!� Appropriate, tasteful clipart is welcome. The
title page on this essay is not considered a part of the length requirement for
the essay.
3. The essay is to be 7-8 body
pages in length, exclusive of the title, graphs, charts, pictures, and Works Cited pages. That means this essay is to
be no less than 6 and no more than 8 full pages in length beginning with the
introduction and ending with the conclusion. Standard� spelling and grammar must be used.
4. The essay must include quotes
and paraphrased notes (including �in-text
citations) exactly according to the method taught. It is the student's
responsibility to review the appropriate information and apply it.
5. Basic Writing Skills--style and conciseness, spelling,
punctuation, usage, sentence structure, development of details, organization COUNT HEAVILY. So does the appearance of the
essay. In short, college-quality work is expected.
6. The essay must be presented
using the basic essay structure taught: an introduction (properly organized and
detailed), a well- developed, well-organized, documented body, and a conclusion
that explains the significance of the analysis/findings.
7. All arguments, details, evidence
must be clearly and directly connected to the focus of the thesis statement
-� at the end of the introduction). This is the writer's responsibility. The reader will not guess at what
overall point the writer is trying to make, nor will the reader guess about
what the arguments or supportive points in the body have to do with the topic
and/or thesis.
8. The pages must be numbered,
using Arabic numbers and must have as a heading your name on the
right hand corner.
9. A Works Cited page must be the last page of the essay
and must contain correct bibliography entries for the
sources cited in the body of the paper as well as other material used. Be absolutely certain to follow the model given.
