INTRODUCTION

For a true writer each book should be a new beginning where he tries again for something that is beyond attainment. He should always try for something that has never been done or that others have tried and failed. Then sometimes, with great luck, he will succeed.

Ernest Hemingway, in his Nobel Prize acceptance speech US author & journalist (1899 - 1961)

TASK

You want to see the world as Hemingway saw it. Your task is to create the most reasonably priced trip to all of the places that Hemingway once visited in Paris You must visit: Montparnasse, Montmatre, Notre Dame and the island, the Pantheon, the Opera Garnier, the Jardin du Luxembourg, the Quai d'Orsay, the Jardin de Tuileries, and popular places along the Seine River. You must include at least three museums and three other places of interest. You shouldn’t forget the Quartier Latin and Saint Germaine. Your itinerary should include: the total cost of the trip – one week in Paris including flight, highlighted facts about each tourist attraction and museum, how things have changed since Hemingway was at that location, methods of transportation, hotel lodging and cost and the restaurants you plan to go to and other options of entertainment. In pairs you will put this information into a travel brochure or booklet.

PROCESS

TRAVEL BROCHURE

1. You will determine the length of your trip (at least one week)
2. You will decide on the means of transportation and check out costs (this includes the flight).
3. You will decide on hotels to stay at and give three different categories and document the cost.
4. If you wish to book any extra tour at a specific location, you have to decide on that, too.
5. You will have to decide on the daily itinerary, what places (tourist attractions)you will be visiting and what you wish to see there.
6. You will decide what restaurant you will visit at each place and which other options of entertainment you may offer.
FINALLY, in pairs you will create your travel brochure including all basic information and costs.

JOURNAL

You will keep an individual journal of your trip. Here should keep a record of all costs, sights, and activities. You should write down the favorite foods you have eaten at each place, including the name of the restaurants. You will comment on the tourist attractions that you have visited and what you liked most. In each museum you must choose at least three pieces, describe them, and say why you found them interesting. You will mention the people you have met. You may also want to mention any souvenirs that you would like to bring home.

Remember.- You have to explain in your journal how things have changed since the time Hemingway lived in Paris.

CONCLUSION

Hemingway spent much of his life outside of the United States. He visited Italy, France, Cuba, Africa, and Spain. With the book "The Sun Also Rises" you will focus on his life in Paris and Spain. All of Hemingway's experiences of visits to festivals and activities, which will become your own, will help you to write creatively.
