Durutti Column Trade List (Last update Nov 18, 2005)

**Titles highlighted in Red are shows that I have made a trade for but have not yet received**

Live/Compilations (All on CDR unless otherwise noted)

4/25/80 Scala Cinema, Totenham, London = Intro, Sketch for Summer, “Dance”, Sketch for Summer, Requiem for a Father, Madeline, Katherine, “Experimental Improv”. Quality = A very good recording for its age. Not sure if this is the complete show. I’m also puzzled as to why ‘Summer’ would be performed twice and so close together!?

6/20/80 ICA, London = Valley of the Kings, Sketch for Summer, Requiem for a Father, Madeline, Unknown, Katherine. Quality = Very good audience recording. Just Vini and a backing tape.

11/1/80 Paard van Trooje, Den Haag (w/Donald Johnson on drums!) = Self Portrait, Mavuchka, Sketch for Summer (cuts), Conduct. Quality = quite good. What a shame that Sketch for Summer cuts! It’s a unique version!

Unknown venue / date (80 or early 81) w/ Donald Johnson on drums = Self Portrait, For Mimi, Mavuchka, “Useless Body”, “Day After Day”, “Keep Her Away”. Quality = Good audience recording. No clue of the date or location (or the last 3 song titles for that matter!).

1/7/81 Manchester, Rafters  = Unknown instrumental 1 (begins in middle of song), Sketch for Summer, Requiem for a Father, Unknown instrumental 2, Katherine, Madeline (some tape drop outs!), Unknown vocal song 1 (Useless Body), Unknown vocal song 2 (Day After Day), Unknown vocal song 3, For Mimi, Mavuchka, Sketch for Summer, Man of Mystery (Shadows cover tune). Quality = Very good recording. It has been pointed out to me (and I quite agree) that this is probably not the entire Rafters gig. Tracks 1 - 3 are probably from Rafters, 4 - 5 are definately from Scala Cinema (listed above), 6 - 11 are another show, then tracks 12 - 13 pick up the same loud background hum as tracks 1 -3.

4/29/81 Rock Garden, London = Sketch for Dawn, Messidor, Jacqueline, Party, Conduct, Sketch for Summer, Favorite Painting? (I Think), The Beggar, Danny, Self Portrait, The Missing Boy. Quality = Great audience recording. I think this is the first gig Vini did with Bruce. Well worth it for the most incredible version of Self Portrait. Bruce goes nuts!

10/13/81 Muntplein, Brussels = Sketch for Dawn, Messidor, Jacqueline, Conduct, Sketch for Summer, Danny, Useless Body, The Missing Boy, Madness (Self Portrait), For Belgian Friends. Quality =  Incredible soundboard show some of which appears on the Crepuscule comp “Some of the Interesting Things…”

?/?/82 Unknown Venue = Sketch for Dawn, Party, Jacquleine, Conduct, Sketch for Summer, The Beggar, Never Known, The Missing Boy, Sigh Becomes a Scream, Self Portrait, Friends in Belgium. Quality = Pretty good audience recording. Unfortunately no clue as to the date or venue. I’m positive this is 1982 though but it could be 81. I doubt it’s 83.

2/10/82 Palais des Artes, Paris, France = Sketch for Dawn, Jacqueline, Party, Conduct, Sketch for Summer, The Beggar, Never Known, Missing Boy, Sigh Becomes a Scream. Quality = I’ve remastered the sound and it is much more listenable now. There is some overwhelming low end but not too much.

2/10/82 Palais des Artes, Paris, France = Sketch for Dawn, Jacqueline, Party, Conduct, Sketch for Summer, The Beggar, Never Known, Missing Boy. Quality = From a .flac source. Much better quality than the one above but not as complete.

2/12/82 Les Baines Douches, Paris, France = Sketch for Dawn, Jacqueline, Party, Sigh Becomes a Scream, Sketch for Summer, The Beggar, Never Known, Missing Boy. Quality = Great. Also from a radio broadcast.

2/14/82 Nightmoves, Glasgow = Sketch for Dawn, Messidor, Party, Jacqueline, Sketch for Summer, Danny, Self Portrait. Quality = Very good. From a radio broadcast.

2/18/82 Polytechnic, Manchester = Prayer, Sketch for Dawn, The Sea Wall, Party, Jacqueline, Conduct, Danny, Sketch for Summer, The Beggar (cuts toward end of song), The Missing Boy, Sigh Becomes a Scream. Quality = Excellent for such an old recording!! This was for a while thought to be the 1/14/81 Lesser Free Trade Hall show, however after some thought, how could it be when Bruce(and clearly it is Bruce on the drums) did not begin giging with Vini until the Rock Garden gig 4/29/81???Not to mention I had received this exact same gig on tape in a trade labeled as Polytechnic, so I think logically this is the correct date/venue.

3/30/82 Mudd Club, New York City = Sketch for Dawn, Party, Jacqueline, Sketch for Summer, Conduct/Dream of a Child (medley, unfortunately song is cut abruptly), The Beggar, Never Known, The Missing Boy, Sigh Becomes a Scream. Quality = Very good recording!

4/6/82 London, The Venue = Sketch for Summer, Party, Mother from Spain, Jacqueline, Conduct, Sketch for Summer, The Beggar, Never Known, The Missing Boy, Sigh Becomes a Scream, Self Portrait, Friends in Belgium (cuts towards end of song). Quality = Excellent! A more complete version, mastered at the correct speed, and no LP crackles! What more could you want!

8/7/1982 Vilar de Mauros Festival = Sketch for Dawn, Jacqueline, Sketch for Summer, Never Known, Conduct, The Beggar, The Missing Boy, Sigh Becomes a Scream, Madness (Self Portrait). Quality = Very good. Not sure if it was a radio broadcast or a soundboard recording that has been through a few generations. Overall very enjoyable!

9/11/82 Deeside Leisure Centre – Futurama 4 Festival = Sketch for Dawn, Dream of a Child, Conduct, Sketch for Summer, Jacqueline, Never Known, The Beggar, The Missing Boy, Self Portrait. + Finding the Sea, Red Shoes, Jacqueline – from ICA benefit concert 7/1/88. Quality = The F4 sound is kind of distant and you can tell the cass this was mastered from is a bit knackered but overall not too bad. The ICA benefit tracks are from video and sound great!

9/11/82 Deeside Leisure Centre – Futurama 4 Festival = Soundcheck(?) = For Mimi, Mavuchka, Self Portrait. Gig = Sketch for Dawn, Dream of a Child, Conduct, Sketch for Summer, Jacqueline, Never Known, The Beggar, The Missing Boy, Self Portrait. Quality = The sound is about the same as above. The noted soundcheck, I am now thinking is not a soundcheck at all but quite possibly part of a pre-Bruce gig. More investigating will be done.

11/20/82 London School of Economics, Old Theatre = Sketch for Dawn, Sketch for Summer, Never Known, Jacqueline, Conduct, The Missing Boy, Prayer, You’ve Heard it Before, Bordeaux, Smile in the Crowd, The Beggar, Self Portrait (cuts abruptly). Quality = Great recording! One of the few to have Manaugh Flemming in the band!

3/3/83 Aula Magna, Lisbon = Small Girl by a Pool, Unknown vocal song, Sketch for Summer, Messidor, Smile in the Crowd / Party (medley), Lies of Mercy, Jacqueline, Dream of a Child, The Missing Boy. Quality = Below average audience recording. Sounds like it has been through a few generations. I have cleaned up the sound.  The Smile/Party medley is quite unique but unfortunately the tape must have run out because the song is incomplete!

4/2/83 Warehouse, Liverpool = Sketch for Dawn, Messidor, Jacqueline, Sketch for Summer, Conduct, Useless Body, Never Known, Dream of a Child, The Beggar, The Missing Boy, Self Portrait, Friends in Belgium. Quality = Decent audience recording.

4/13/83The Blue Note, Derby = Friends in Portugal, Sketch for Dawn, Messidor, Jacqueline, Sketch for Summer, Conduct, Never Known, “Useless Body”, Dream of a Child, The Beggar, The Missing Boy, Self Portrait, Friends in Belgium. Quality = Very good audience recording. The highs can be a bit “crackly” at times though.

7/6/83 ICA, London = Sketch for Dawn, Messidor, Jacqueline, Sketch for Summer, Conduct, “Useless Body”, Dream of a Child, Friends in Portugal, The Beggar, Missing Boy. Quality = Good audience recording. Worth it for “Friends in Portugal”!

9/2/83 De Doelen, Rotterdam – Pandora’s Music Box Festival = Sketch for Dawn, Sketch for Summer, Conduct, Pauline, Jacqueline, "Useless Body" (Unknown vocal track 1), "The Past and the Present" (Unknown vocal track 2). Quality = Excellent. Downloaded from Napster.

9/23/83 De Doelen, Rotterdam – Pandora’s Music Box Festival = Sketch for Dawn, Sketch for Summer, Conduct, Pauline, Jacqueline, "Useless Body" (Unknown vocal track 1), Estoril a Noite (vocal version), The Beggar. Quality = Good audience recording and is complete compared to the one above..

12/15/84 Zap Club, Brighton = Sketch for Summer, Jacqueline, Mercy Theme, Little Mercy, Mercy Intro, Mercy Dance, EE, The Room, A Silence (incomplete), Prayer, The Beggar. Quality = Good recording. Possibly from a soundboard but a few generations on.

Quality = Very good recording but with 2 downsides (according to the “taper”); 1- Missed the first tune of the show (wrong button on recorder pressed!), and 2- There is some digital noise (due to a worn head) for about 15 min from ‘Otis’, then it clears up. So overall it’s really really good I think!
