Songs/Poems

Reindeer Pokey
tune: "Hokey Pokey"

You put your antlers* in. You put your antlers out. You put your antlers in and you shake them all about. You do the reindeer pokey and you turn yourself around. That's what it's all about.

*You put your hooves in...
*You put your tail in...
*You put your red nose in...
*You put your reindeer body in...

 Five Little Elves

Five little elves jumping on a sled, one fell off and bumped his head. Santa called the doctor and the doctor said, "No more elves jumping on the sled."

Continue counting down to one little elf jumping on the sled.

Santa's Coming
tune: "Frere Jacques"

Santa's coming,
Santa's coming,
Sleigh bells ring,
Sleigh bells ring,
It is Christmas Eve,
It is Christmas Eve.
Ding, Ding, Dong
Ding, Ding, Dong

Christmas Tree Work Mats
Idea borrowed from KinderKorner

KinderKorner's Christmas page

I made ten Christmas trees. On each tree, I wrote the numbers 1-10. I added the correct number of stickers on the page for the children who are still learning to recognize numerals. The children look at the number and put the correct number of ornaments on the tree.

 Tri-bead Candy Cane

You will need a pipe cleaner and tri-beads (red, green, white, or clear) to make this ornament. The children had to make a pattern using  two or three colors. They decided what kind of pattern (AB, ABA, ABC, etc.) they wanted. After they chose the colors, the children put the beads on the pipe cleaner. These candy canes are used to decorate our classroom tree.

 Kid Pix Writing

Kid Pix is a neat program to use. A template was created. The children had to use stamps to create a Christmas scene. Last, they had to write about their picture.

 Edible Tree

You will need a sugar cone, frosting, food coloring, and candy to make the edible tree. Use the food coloring to make the frosting green. The children then "painted" their sugar cone green. Then, they use candy to decorate the tree.

Advent Calendar

Make an Advent calendar to help the children count the days until Christmas. The children were given two ornament patterns. A number is written on one ornament. The second ornament is left blank so the children can draw picture. Each day an ornament is opened to reveal a picture.
