ABC's of Kindergarten

A
Attendance is very important! If your child is going to be absent from school, please call the office and leave a message that states your child's name, my name, and the date(s) of absence.

An absence is recorded as unexcused until a note is received from the parent. When your child returns to school, please send a note that states the date(s) of absence(s) and the reason for the absence(s). An excused absence will be recorded as such if the reason for absence follows School Board policy.

B
Always check your child's back pack every day!  Please take out any papers that should stay home.

Every child's birthday is special.  Please contact us if you would like to send a special snack.

You will have the opportunity to order books from different book clubs.

C
Communication is important. Feel free to contact us whenever you have a question or concern. !

Conferences
are held in the fall and the spring; however, we can  conference during other times of the year if you or myself feel the need to have a conference.

We have computers in the classroom. We will also go to the Computer Lab.

D
Our county has  a dress code. Go to http://www.wcpss.net/news/dresscode.html to get more information about the new policy.

E
Please send all money to school in an envelope with the following information printed on the front: Student's name, teacher's name, and the purpose of the money (lunch, field trip, etc.)

Feel free to send me an e-mail if you have any questions or concerns. If the matter is urgent, please write a note.

Accidents happen. Please send an extra pair of clothes to school. Your child will keep these clothes in her/his cubby.

F
If your child is running a fever, please do not send him/her to school. Your child should be free from fever for 24 hours before returning to school.

We will  go on a few field trips. You will receive advance notice of any trips.

We will send home folders every Monday (or every other Monday). The folder will contain your child’s work and school related information. You are to keep the work (unless otherwise indicated), sign the parent signature sheet, and return the parent signature sheet in your child’s folder.
Please remind your child to bring the folder back on Tuesday. If the folder goes home on a day other than Monday, your child should return the folder the next school day.

G
We will have a lot of good times in our room.

H
Your child will have homework. The homework will be  sent home in your child's homework folder every Monday.  Please return the homework in the homework folder on Friday.

I
It is important to keep all records current. Please be sure to inform the school if you move, get a new home phone number, get a new cell phone number, change jobs, or get new emergency contacts.

J
Please join the Forestville Elementary PTA. Parent participation is important.

K
Good communication between home and school, a positive attitude,  and good attendance are the keys to a successful school year.

L
The library operates on a flexible schedule; therefore, we do not have a set library day. We will go to the library once a week. Your child is also able to return and check out books daily.

We eat lunch at 10:30. We sit at table one. If you plan to eat lunch with your child, you must first go to the office and get a visitor's pass. After you get your visitor's pass, please go to the cafeteria and wait for our class to come. You are always welcome to join us for lunch; however, please give us a few weeks to establish our routine before visiting.

Children who buy lunch from the cafeteria are responsible for keeping their lunch money. To eliminate the necessity of having your child carry money every day, you may pre-pay school lunch by the week or month. Since lunch payments are computerized, no money on your child's lunch plan is lost if your child is absent or chooses to bring lunch to school.

M
Please send money in a sealed envelope that's labeled with the following information: Student's name, teacher's name, and the purpose of the money (lunch, field trip, etc.).

N
Please put your child's name on his/her belongings!

I will send home a newsletter on a regular basis. Please sign and date the bottom part of the newsletter.

P
I schedule parent-teacher conferences during the fall and spring. If you wish to schedule a parent-teacher conference at any time other than the scheduled fall and spring, please send a note.

The report card is called the Progress Report. You will receive a Progress Report in January and May.

Pandi
is a stuffed frog that goes home with the children Monday through Thursday. Your child is to have fun with Pandi and have you write about his/her adventures with Pandi. When you write what your child says, please have your child look so she/he can see how letters make words, words make sentences, and sentences make paragraphs. When your child is able to write her/his own sentences, please encourage her/him to write in Pandi's journal.

Q
Let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Please feel free to call me at school, send an e-mail, or write a note to address any questions or concerns you have.

You are asked to let us know how your child gets to and from school.  If your child’s transportation is going to change, it is important that you write a note. We love to have volunteers in the classroom. The volunteer list suggest the different ways you can help. Please fill it out so we will know how you want to help. Our Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is also looking for volunteers. They too have a sign up sheet. If you wish to volunteer but work during school hours, please write me a note or send an e-mail. We will discuss ways you can help outside of school hours. Some possibilities are working as a film club helper, working as a library parent, or preparing materials for the class. When you come to help, you must sign in at the office and get a visitor's pass.
