One Day...

My sister laughed one day
And I noticed I cracked the joke
That made her smile and laugh
Until she had tears in her eyes
And I wondered if things had changed
Since yesterday

Almost five years apart
Growing up together was a disaster
I looked up to her and wished I was like her
While she wished I would just go away
She pushed me around a lot
And we fought all the time
We hardly ever got along
But the years passed
And we got older

My sister cried today
And I noticed that I had cried too
The pain in her heart
Had found its way to mine
And I realized that she is no longer just my sister
She is my friend
