| Fun & Games... | |||||||||||||
| Very short at the moment, but this list will grow in time. This is a collection of memories of games and toys from the 80s. It's surprising how many of them are still around these days, in some shape or form at least, though most now program your microwave and do your ironing, too.... Right, anyone for a game of Connect 4...?!! |

Big Yellow Teapot - a lovely home for a family of five, plus their dog..... Buckeroo - That good old 'let's make the kids jump out their skin' toy. Busy Buzzy Bumble Bees - A crap game involving kids wearing strange head-gear. But the ads were cool! Connect 4 - It's hard to imagine this game ever NOT existing. Dial-A-Design - "Dial-a-design, and colour it in, that's all you have to do..." Domino Rally Action Alley - OK, just whose bloody idea WAS this toy??!!! Worse than that, whose idea was it to bring the damn thing BACK this year?? Edd The Duck Puppets - A slightly odd thing to put down, maybe, but just how many people had one of these?? Etch-A-Sketch - The timeless toy.... where once you could only turn two buttons and one single mistake ruined the picture. Have you seen the modern equivalent?! Frustration - Despite the name, NOT as frustrating as Domino Rally.... Game of Life - "Find a job, and Money maybe. Get married, have a baby..." Go For Broke - Lose all your money and win. Wish life was like that... Guess Who? - Believe it or not I never played this game until I was 19. I wasn't missing much. Hollywoods - A doll whose hair changed colour when in contact with warm water. Believe it or not, this was once the height of toy technology... Hungry Hippos - Ahh, yes, an all time classic! Grab those balls! Juniour Scrabble - With pictures on the squares to give you ideas Lights Alive - Imagine my surprise when I found one of these poke-the-lights-in toys in a shop recently Mousetrap - A game strangely enough I've never actually played. Mr. Frosty - Oh yes, mashing up ice cubes in a plastic snowman! Hours of fun for all the family.... Mr. Pop - What better way to entertain kids than to make plastic items fly off their toy at them... Operation - ARGH! Someone, ban this game! AND the ad - "Operation, call the doctor...." Paul Daniels Magic sets - Why, for the love of God? WHY??? Play-Doh - Soft and squidgy, and all the colours turned grey after a week.... Popples - VERY freaky toys which could be rolled up inside themselves and... well, pop out again! Rings On Your Fingers - Very intellectual... matching plasic rings to the card supplied! Screwball Scramble - Someone would ALWAYS bring one of these to school on the last day of term... and the batteries would always run out before lunchtime! Spirograph - Hours of fun scribbling in circles! Tiny Tears - "She wets, she cries and now she's got 'follow-me' eyes!" With ads like that is it any wonder I never liked dolls?! Transformers - Robots in disguise! Tropical Fish (& other handheld games) - In the days before Game Boys and Game Gears these seemed like the most technologically advanced toys on the planet! Twister - Left foot on Red! |
