| Now this is a confusing and complicated story. The story consists of many twists and turns, and MAJOR complications. A girl named Sarasa and her brother were born one fateful day, and a prophet fortold the boy as being the son of destiny, who was sent from the heavens to lead the people to freedom of the Red King. Through out childhood,Tatara always had the most attention, and Sarasa would just help the blind prophet with his work, but she was always such a tomboy. One day, the Red King and his army assasinated Tatara, and kidnapped their mother, also killed their father. Sarasa cuts her hair and pretends to be Tatara, and leads the people of the village into the mountain. She has sworn vengence on the Red King, and will do anything to kill him. Another interesting character she meets is Shuri. When ever she goes to the hot springs, she meets him there by coincidence. He is one of the few characters that knows Sarasa as Sarasa, and not Tatara. At first, she doesnt like him very much, because he see's her naked and doesnt apologize, and also, he tries to kiss her when she's trying to leave. Eventually, she sees him again at a well, and then again in another hot spring. After a while, she cant help but fall in love with him, even if he is a rich womanizing bastard that is constantly putting the moves on her. The main catch is that her love Shuri is also the Red King, which is one thing he has neglected to tell her, and she has not told him her alternate persona. If you do bother to read it, which I suggest you do, dont get the anime of it. Its is only 13 episodes long and while it does stay true to its manga roots, it ends ubruptly becuase production was cancelled due to unpopularity I would give this an 8 out of 10 The drawing style is a tad unatractive, and some character's monologs are a bit sappy. Basara is produced by VIZ and created by Yumi Tamura |
