Free Women Free Women in the eyes of Gorean Males are priceless, only they have bear heirs that will be free, a child bore to a slave is born to slavery.
It's said she wears robes of concealment to hide her own slavery as all Free Women are slaves by nature but there are actually only a small percentage 2-3% of the female population of Gor that is slaves, most women are in fact free.
A Free Woman is respected and honored, she may speak freely without fear of retribution as compared to a slave has to only speak with permission and then still maybe disciplined if the Master so desires. She enjoys prestige and status higher them most earth women ever attain.
She does in fact have to becareful not to be "face stripped". Essentially what this means is her veils are ripped away by force and she is made a slave, her robes of concealment maybe removed and she is seen as naked, but once her face is revealed she is reduced to slavery, there are exceptions to this as you will see below where in some areas veils are not even worn by Free Women.
She does have the "Rite of Submission" as well, there is also quotes below on this. She may openly submit Herself for His protection and use, this is done by the performance of a formal gesture of submission by which she invokes the ancient Gorean "rite of submission." He may either accept her as His slave or drive her off, with the exception of a Warrior who by His codes can never abandon a female while she is alive, so He must either accept her as His slave or kill her, if He does choose to kill her He is infact preserving Her honor as a Free Woman and her caste and family. To invoked the "rite of submission" She face strips herself and publicly announces that She willingly submits to the individual she has chosen. Then assumes "the position of female submission," where she kneels at her captor's feet and leans her body back, sitting upon her heels, with her arms extended upward, crossed at the wrists, and her head beneath them lowered in supplication. The Master then if accepting her as His slave receives all Her property and She loses her titles and rank.
Cosmetics and perfumes are generally considered for slaves although in some areas Free Women do infact use them. Their hair is usually kept swept up and it's a ideal place for Her to hide pins coated with poisoning for protection.
It's not uncommon for a Free Woman to despise a slave and the slave is commonly required to be modest around the Free Woman otherwise she may bear the Free Woman's wrath. Although some Free Women are amused by slaves, have slaves Themselves or may take no notice at all of the slaves but slaves are very sensual, they are required to be and some Free Women look upon this as scandalous and degrading. Frigidity is accepted in Free Women only.
She may wield weapons for in fact She is free but most Free Women don't carry any weapons She can't easily conceal upon Herself. Primarily they would be daggers and poison needles, both can be hidden in the many folds of Her robes of concealment and the needles can be even hidden in her hair. She knows that a moment's hesitation may one day make the difference for them between a life of ease and honor or a life of imbonditude so may spend many hours practicing pulling out her weapons. She knows in open combat She has no chance against a Warrior so relies on surprise and stealth to protect Herself.
Suggestions for online behavior:
Treat O/others with honor and respect at all times, to not do so may invite a brass Warrior to face strip You and make You slave. Just be attractive, witty or however You are with respect to Those around You.If Someone is bothering You sometimes the best alternative is to ignore Them the best You can until You learn the ins and outs of online and feel comfortable with Your station there.
Free Women normally Uppercast Their names in online Gor
Address Gorean Master's by Their name or as Friend, if You address Them as Master it's showing submission towards Them and You don't want that or might be face stripped.
Don't ever draw a weapon against Another unless You are under attack or You may found Yourself killed or collared into slavery. This included brandishing weapons without provocation.
Act like a slave and You are apt to be made into one. Behave like a Lady/Free Woman and enjoy the respect and honor given to You.
You may as in the books own and use slaves according to Your desires but that doesn't necessarily mean You walk into a tavern and begin automatically ordering the slaves about, even with slaves if You treat them with some dignity and respect they will serve You much better.

Dress varies to a certain degree by culture, actually in some cases alot, the Free Women of the Red People are dressed very similar to the slaves, more on the various cultures can be found on those individual pages. Many Free Women and most High Caste women wear robes of concealment and veils. Veils vary in how many and combinations, lower caste women may only have one veil so it must due in all circumstances where higher class might wear a multitude of veils. It's common for a Free Woman in public to wear only two veils though.
Normally only a Free Companion or Father might look upon the face of a Free Woman without Her veils although sometimes in Their own homes a Free Woman might go without Her veil when servants and family are all that are there.
They either drink through the veil or carefully push a corner of it aside to drink. If She bears to much flesh in public She may in fact be face stripped and made a slave in some areas although some areas veils are not actually even required and They drink without a veil.
The veil, it might be noted, is not legally imperative for a Free Woman; it is rather a matter of modesty and custom. Some low-class, uncompanioned, Free Women do not wear veils. Similarly certain bold Free Women neglect the veil. Neglect of the veil is not a crime in Gorean cities, though in some it is deemed a brazen and scandalous omission.
All then drank save for the Lady Florence, who smiling, did not lift her cup. Free Women, drinking, commonly lift their veil, or veils, with the left hand. Low-caste free women, if veiled, usually do the same. Sometimes, however, particularly, if in public, they will drink through their veil, or veils. Sometimes, of course, free women will drink unveiled, even with guests. Much depends on how well the individuals are known and who is present. In their homes, of course, with only members of their families present, or servants and slaves, most free women do not veil themselves, even those of high caste.
Fighting Slave of Gor page 276Eta, from behind me, pinned the first of five veils about my face. It was light, and shimmering, of white silk, almost transparent. Then, one after the other, she added the freedom veil, or veil of the citizeness, the pride veil, the house veil, and street veil. Each of these is heavier and more opaque than the one which lies within. the street veil, worn publicly, is extremely bulky, quite heavy and completely opaque; not even the lineaments of the nose and cheeks are discernible when it is worn; the house veil is worn indoors when there are those present who are not of the household, as in conversing with or entertaining associates of one's companion. Veils are worn in various numbers and combinations by Gorean free women, this tending to vary by preference and caste. Many low class Gorean women own only a single veil which must do for all purposes. Not all high-caste women wear a large number of veils. A free woman, publicly, will commonly wear, one or two veils; a frequent combination is the light veil, or last veil, and the house or street veil. Rich, vain women of high caste may wear ostentatiously as many as nine or ten veils. In certain cities, in connection with the free companionship, the betrothed or pledged beauty may wear eight veils, several of which are ritualistically removed during various phases of the ceremony of companionship; the final veils, and robes, of course, are removed in private by the male who, following their removal, arms interlocked with the girl, drinks with her the wine of the companionship, after which he completes the ceremony. This sort, of thing, however, varies considerably from city to city. In some cities the girl is unveiled, though not disrobed, of course, during the public ceremony. The friends of the male may then express their pleasure and joy in her beauty, and their celebration of the good fortunes of their friend. The veil, it might be noted, is not legally imperative for a free woman; it is rather a matter of modesty and custom. Some low-class, uncompanioned, free girls do not wear veils. Similarly certain
bold free women neglect the veil. Neglect of the veil is not a crime in Gorean cities, though in some it is deemed a brazen and scandalous omission.

Robes of Concealment
Many Free Women and most High Caste women wear robes of concealment and veils. The higher your class the more complex your robes and the lower your caste the simpler the robes. They normally cover a Free Woman from head to toe even with gloves. Part of the reasoning for the robes is to protect the Free Woman, a Master won't steal a Women who might be ugly, there are just to many beautiful slaves to be had."I can still see your hair," said Drusus Renclus.
I drew the hood angrily even more closely about my features. Little more now could be seen of me, as is common with the robes of concealment, but a bit of the bridge of my nose and my eyes.
Kajira of Gor page 99In Ar's Station,' he said, `as in Ar, robes of concealment, precisely, are not legally obligatory for free women, no more than the veil. Such things are a matter of custom. On the other hand, as you know, there are statutes prescribing certain standards of decorum for free women. For example, they may not appear naked in the streets, as may slaves. Indeed, a free woman who appears in public in violation of these standards of decorum, for example, with her arms or legs too much bared, may be made a slave.'
Renegades of Gor pages 367-368I rejoiced that in at least one city on gor the free women were not expected to wear the Robes of Concealment, confine their activities largely to their own quarters, and speak only to their blood relatives and, eventually, the Free Companion.

Dress of Free Women of the Torvaldsland"The free woman was a tall woman, large. She wore a great cape of fur, of white sea-sleen, thrown back to reveal the whiteness of her arms. Her kirtle was of the finest wool of Ar, dyed scarlet, with black trimmings. She wore two broaches, both carved of the horn of a kaiiliauk, mounted in gold. At her waist she wore a jeweled scabbard, protruding from which I saw the ornamented, twisted blade of a Turian dagger; free women of Torvaldsland commonly carry a knife; at her belt too, hung her scissors, and a ring of many keys, indicating that her hall contained many chests or doors; her hair was worn high, wrapped about a comb, matching the broaches, of the horn of kailiauk; the fact that her hair was worn dressed indicated that she stood in companionship; the number of her keys, together with the scissors, indicated that she was mistress of a great house. She had gray eyes; her hair was dark; her face was cold and harsh."
Marauders of Gor page 156"Her hair was hung in a snood of scarlet yarn, bound with filaments of gold wire. She wore, over her shoulder, cape of white fur of the northern sea sleen. She had a scarlet vest, embroidered in gold, worn over a long-sleeved blouse of white wool, from distant Ar. She wore, too, a long woolen skirt, dyed red, which was belted with black, with a buckle of gold, wrought in Cos. She wore shoes of black, polished leather, which folded about her ankles, laced twice, once across the instep, once about the ankle."
Marauders of Gor page 25"…She wore black and silver, a full, ankle-length gown of rich, black velvet, with silver belts, or straps, that crossed over her breasts, and tied about her waist. From it, by strings, hung a silver purse, that seemed weighty. Her blond hair was lifted from the sides and back of her head by a comb of bone and leather, like an inverted isoceles triangle, the comb fastened by a tiny black ribbon about her neck, and another such ribbon about her forehead. Her cloak, of black fur, from the black sea sleen, glossy and deep, swirled to her ankles. It was fastened at the left shoulder by a large circular brooch of silver, probably from Tharna."
Marauders of Gor page 35"Bera, his woman, rose to her feet. I could see that her mind was moving with rapidity.
'Come tonight to our hall Champion,' she said
The Blue Tooth did not gainsay her. The woman of the Jarl had spoken. Free women of the north have much power. The Jarl's woman in the Kaissa of the north is a more powerful piece than the Ubara in the Kaissa of of the south" Marauders of Gor page 191"...'I tell you' cried the man at the table 'it is Hilda, daughter of Thorgard of Scagner. I have been in his hall. It is she!'
The women of the north, commonly, do not veil themselves."

Dress of Free Women of the Wagon PeopleDress of Free Women of the Tuchuck Womenfree women , incidentally, among the Wagon Peoples are not permitted to wear silk: it is claimed by those of the Wagons, delightfully I think, that any women who loves the feel of silk of silk on her body is, in the secrecy of her heart and blood , a slave girl, whether or not some Master has yet forced her to don the collar.
Nomads of Gor page 58Nearly were we run down by six riders on thundering kaiila who, riding for sport, raced past us wildly among the crowded, clustered wagons. I heard the lowing of milk bosk from among the wagons. Here and there children ran between the wheels, playing with a cork ball and quiva, the object of the game being to strike the thrown ball. Tuchuk women, unveiled, in their long leather dresses, long hair bound in braids, tened cooking pots hung on tem-wood tripods over dung fires. These women were unscarred, but like the bosk themselves, each wore a nose ring. that of the animals is heavy and of gold, that of the women also of gold but tiny and fine, not unlike the wedding rings of my old world. I heard a haruspex singing between the wagons; for a piece of meat he would read the wind and the grass; for a cup of wine the stars and the flight of birds; for a fat bellied dinner the liver of a sleen or slave
Nomads of Gor page 27Education
She normally will learn to prepare exotic foods, care of the Man's equipment, various arts such as walking and standing. She in fact has to learn to a degree how to please a Man even as a Free Woman. The Gorean girl is, even if free, accustomed to slavery; she will perhaps own one or more slaves herself; she knows that she is weaker than men and what this can mean; she knows that cities fall and caravans are plundered; she knows she might even, by a sufficiently bold warrior, be captured in her own quarters and, bound and hooded, be carried by tarn back over the wall of her own city. Moreover, even if she is never enslaved, she is familiar with the duties of slaves and what is expected of them; if she should be enslaved she will know , on the whole, what is expected of her what is permitted her and not; moreover the Gorean girl is literally educated, fortunately or not, to the notion that it is of great importance to know how to please men; accordingly, even girls who will be free companions, and never slaves, learn the preparation and serving of exotic dishes, the art of walking, and standing, and being beautiful, the care of a mans equipment, the love dances of their city, and so on.
Nomads of Gor page 63A notable exception to the generalization that women of a given caste normally do not engage in caste work in the caste of Physicians, whose women are commonly trained, as are the boys, in the practice of medicine. Even the physicians, however, normally do not admit their women to the full practice until they have borne two children. The purpose of this is to
retain a high level of intelligence in the caste. Professional women, it is well understood, tend not to reproduce themselves, a situation which, over time, would be likely to produce a diminution in the quality of the caste. Concern for the future of the caste is thus evinced with
this limitation by the physicians on the rights of their women to participate without delay in the caste craft. The welfare of the caste, typically, takes priority in the Gorean mind over the ambitions of specific individuals.
Fighting Slave of Gor page 209The woman of the Physicians, at the age of fifteen, in many cities, wears two bracelets on her left wrist. when she has one child one bracelet is removed; when she has a second child the second bracelet is removed. she may then, if she desires, enter into the full practice of her craft.....
Fighting Slave of Gor page 211Free Companionship
There is no institution of marriage on Gor, but there enter into a contract of free companionship. They don't take these contracts lightly as many people of earth view a marriage, normally a contract of free companionship is only terminated upon death. This contract does need to renewed on a yearly basis though if not then it's disavowed, plus if either party is enslaved then the contract is automatically disavowed. There is two distinct reasons for a Man to take Free Companion, one is to bear Him free children to pass on His bloodline and the second being an alliance between families, within castes or between cities/regions.
Similar to an arranged marriage on earth years ago, She actually Owns nothing, her clothing and what food she has is given to her by Him, she don't even actually own slaves unless it's in the contract that she may.
He though may own as many slaves as He desires, do as He wishes when He wishes even to frequent taverns and alcove with the slaves, She knows this and accepts this as it's the way life is on Gor.
Her duties at times are not unlike a kajira's but she may dine at His side, with His friends or associates and is always the perfect hostess, she also may be under nearly as much discipline as a kajira is.
There is no marriage as we know it on Gor, but there is the institution of free companionship, which is its nearest correspondent. Surprisingly enough, a woman who is bought from her parents, for tarns of gold, is regarded as a free companion, even though she may not have been insulted in the transaction. More commendably, a free woman may herself, of her own free will, agree to be such a companion. Such relationships are not entered into lightly, and they are normally sundered only by death.
Outlaws of Gor page 54"In every woman," said Ute, "there is a Free Companion and a slave girl. The Free Companion seeks for her companion, and the slave girl seeks for her master."
Captive of Gor page 83The Goreans claim that in each woman there is a Free Companion, proud and beautiful, worthy and noble, and in each, too, a slave girl. The Companion seeks for her Companion, and the slave girl for her Master.
Hunters of Gor Page 102This harsh treatment, incidentally, when she is thought to deserve it, may even be inflicted on a free companion, in spite of the fact that she is free and usually much loved. According to the Gorean way of looking at things a taste of the slave ring is thought to be occasionally beneficial to all women, even the exalted free woman. Thus when she has been irritable or otherwise troublesome even a Free Companion may find herself at the foot of the couch looking forward to a pleasant night on the stones, stripped, with neither mat nor blanket, chained to the slave ring precisely as though she were a lowly slave girl. It is the Gorean way of reminding her, should she need to be reminded, that she, too, is a woman, and thus to be dominated, to be subject to men. Should she be tempted to forget this basic fact of Gorean life the slave ring set in the bottom of each Gorean couch is there to refresh her memory. Gor is a man`s world.
Priest Kings of Gor, page 67Talena looked into my eyes.
"What will you do with me?" she asked.
"I will take you to Ko-ro-ba," I said, "to my city"
"As your slave?" she smiled.
"If you will have me," I said, "as my Free Companion."
"I accept, Tarl of Ko-ro-ba by," said Talena with love in her eyes. "I accept you as my Free Companion."
"If you did not." I laughed, "I would throw you across my saddle and carry you to Ko-ro-ba by force."
She laughed as I swept her from her feet and lifted her to the saddle of my giant tarn. In the saddle, her arms were around my neck, her lips on mine.
"Are you a true warrior?" she asked, her eyes bright with mischief, testing me, her voice breathless.
"We shall see," I laughed.
Then, in accord with the rude bridal customs of Gor, as she furiously but playfully struggled, as she squirmed and protested and pretended to resist, I bound her bodily across the saddle of the tarn. Her wrists and ankles were secured, and she lay before me, arched over the saddle, helpless, a captive, but of love and her own free will. The warriors laughed, Marlenus the loudest.
"It seems I belong to you, bold Tarnsman," she said. "What are you going to do with me?"
In answer, I hauled on the one-strap, and the great bird rose into the air, higher and higher, even into the clouds, and she cried to me, "Let it be now, Tarl," and even before we had passed the outermost ramparts of Ar, I had untied her ankles and flung her single garment to the streets below, to show her people what had been the fate of the daughter of their Ubar.
Tarnsman of Gor page 213When I returned to Ko-ro-ba with Talena, a great feast was held and we celebrated our Free Companionship. A holiday was declared, and the city was ablaze with light and song. Shimmering strings of bells pealed in the wind, and festive lanterns of a thousand colors swung from the innumerable flower-strewn bridges. there was shouting, and laughter, and the glorious colors of the castes of Gor mingled equally in the cylinders. Gone for the night was even the distinction of master and slave, and many a wretch in bondage would see the dawn as a fee man. To my delight, even Torm , of the Caste of Scribes, appeared at the tables, I was honored that the little scribe had separated himself from his beloved scrolls long enough to share my happiness, only that of a warrior. He was wearing a new robe and sandals, perhaps for the first time in m years. He clasped my hands, and, to my wonder, the little scribe was crying. And then in his joy, he turned to Talena and in gracious salute lifted the symbolic cup of Ka-la-na wine to her beauty. Talena and I swore to honor that day as long as either of us lived. I have tried to keep that promise, and I know that she has done so as well. That night, that glorious night, was a night of flowers, torches, and Ka-la-na wine, and late, after sweet hours of love, we fell asleep in each other's arms.

Respect to Males
One thing Free Women must remember even though she is Free Gor is a Man's world, He allows Her to remain free and there for she should always show Men respect otherwise risk being face stripped and placed into slavery."The demeaning of men, whereas it is permitted to, and not unknown among, free women, is not permitted to female slaves. Such, on their part, can be a capital offense."
Assassin of Gor Page 170"Did you strike me because I challenged your manhood?" she asked.
"You were not struck for such an absurd reason," I said. "You are, after all, a free woman, and free woman are entitled to insult and to attempt to demean and destroy men. It is one of their freedoms, unless men, of course, should decide to take it from them. You were struck, rather, because you were attempting to manipulate me."
Mercenaries of Gor Page 442Safety Protection
In some areas, Free Women are not permitted to leave their home without the permission of a male relative or their Free Companion.. In public, Free Women normally travel only with armed guards, They well understand the dangers of trying to travel alone. She may even carry daggers or poisoned needles to protect Herself. On gor a woman normally travels only with a suitable retinue of armed guards. Women , on this barbaric world, are often regarded , unfortunately, as little more than love prizes, the fruits of conquest and seizure. too, often , they are seen less as persons, human beings with rights, individuals worthy of concern and regard than as potential pleasure slaves, silken, bangles prisoners, possible adornments to the pleasure gardens of their captors. There is a saying on Gor that the laws of a city extend no further than its walls.
Outlaw of Gor page 50"`If you may pleasure yourself in taverns,' she said, `surely so, too, may I.' `Free women,' I said, `do not come here. It is too close to the wharves. It is dangerous. This is Gor.'"
Rogue of Gor page 158Sitting How She sits
A Free Woman kneels in a tower slave position with Their hands on their thighs, palms down. Free women do not sit cross-legged as Males do. And They maintain good posture while kneeling.Aphris of Turia, pleased with herself, assumed her place between the merchant and Kamchak, kneeling back on her heels in the position of the Gorean Free Woman. Her back was very straight and her head high, in the Gorean fashion.
Nomads of Gor page 94"Sheera knelt there. She did not sit cross-legged. She knelt as a Gorean woman."
Hunters of Gor page 75The Gorean Male, at ease, usually sits cross legged and the female kneels, resting back on her heals. the position of the Tower Slave, in which Vika now knelt, differs from that of a free woman only in the position of the wrists which are held before her and, when not occupied, crossed as though for binding. A free womans wrists are never so placed. The position of the Pleasure Slave, incidentally, differs from the position of both the free woman and the Tower Slave. The hands of the Pleasure Slave normally rest upon her thighs but, in some cities, for example Thentis, I beleive, they are crossed behind her. More significantly, for the free women may also rest upon her thighs, there is a difference in the placement of the knees. In all these kneeling positions incidentally, even that of the Pleasure Slave, the Gorean woman carries herself well; her back is straight and her chin is high. She tends to be vital and beautiful to look upon.
Priest Kings of Gor, page 46Sex
It had become dark now. We could hear the pleasure cries of a woman a few tents away.
"Do you think she is free?" asked Phoebe.
"Probably," I said. "There are not too many slaves in the camp now."
"What do you think he is doing to her?" she asked.
"Mastering her," I said.
"Do you think she is tied?" she asked.
"Probably." I said
She looked down, shuddering, blushing. The intensification of sexual pleasure, both physically and psychologically, by the application of selected restraints is well known.

Value
Free women are priceless. It's only Then that can bear a Male a Free Heir, children born to slaves are born into slavery. It is a difficult and perilous undertaking for a Gorean Free Woman to maintain her status at times, a Free Woman is expected to choose the option of Free and honorable death rather than accept the fate of living in slavery although this actually happens very little."And what then" I asked, "do you think I would bring?"
He looked at me, smiling.
"What?" I asked.
"I would think," he said, "that you would bring somewhere between fifteen and twenty copper tarsks."
"Copper tarsks!" I cried.
"Yes" he said.
"Beast" I cried. "Beast"
"But remember," he said smiling, "it is slaves who are assessed and have prices. Free women are priceless."
"Yes," I said, somewhat mollified, stepping back. "Yes!" I must remember that I was priceless. I was a free woman.....
Kajira of Gor page 97
Status
Free women belong to almost all Castes on Gor except the Initiates, Players and Assassins. They are either born into a caste, free companioned into it or promoted to it. When accepting a free companion contract she can either keep her present caste or take her Free Companions in which case her children will take on the Male's caste upon birth. Most women don't actually perform the duties of Their caste although many infact do perform as Scribes and Merchants. There are even female slavers, though not many and some female Physicians. To be sure, in certain cities, as had been the case with Ko-ro-ba. women were permitted status within the caste system and had relatively unrestricted existence. Indeed, in Ko-ro-ba, a woman might even leave her quarters without first obtaining the permission of a male relative or free companion, a freedom which was unusual on Gor. The women of Ko-ro-ba might even be found sitting unattended in the theater or at the reading of epics.
Outlaw of Gor page 49Weapons Weapons
Free Woman may own weapons and the most common choice is a dagger. It's easily concealed in the many folds of her robes. But if She draws a weapon against a Warrior, other than in self defense, She places herself within His capture rights.
Even in Gor Free Women have to remember Gor is a Man's world
Gor is a Male Dominated world and Free Women although priceless to the Males maybe at anytime put in her place and reminded she to may be reduced to slavery at a moments notice."According to the Gorean way of looking at things a taste of the slave ring is thought to be occasionally beneficial to all women, even the exalted Free Companions.
