Why bind a slave?
"Master," she said.
"Yes," I said.
"Why would you bind
a woman who is a slave?" she asked, "She knows that there is no escape
for her. She is not going to run away. She knows that you may do with her
as you please."
"It holds her in
a given position," I said, "for your leisured work upon her body."
"That is true," she
said.
"But the primary reasons," I said, "are as
you might suspect, psychological, both from the point of view of the master
and the slave. She, chained, or bound, is helpless. She knows that she
might, at the master's whim, be slit like a larma. This increases her terror,
her vulnerability, her desire to be found pleasing. This makes her feel
more slavelike and, accordingly, more ready to respond to the touch of
the master. From the master's point of view, of course, this is also stimulating.
It is pleasant for a man to have absolute power over a woman, to have her
bound or chained in a position of his choosing, and to know that she must
submit to whatever he chooses to do to her. In this situation the equations
of nature, those of dominance and submission, are intensified. This is
felt by both the master and the slave. Too, to be sure, there is, for physiological
reasons also, commonly, some boosting of the female's responses, as the
result of the binding, the restraint. The orgasmic spasms, somehwat restrcted,
or, perhaps better, channeled, regulated and controlled, confined within
the parameters set by the master, must then seem more intense, more concentrated."

He secured the top block, hinged at the block, with a metal bolt on a chain, thrust on the lower block, over the hasp, swung down from the upper block.
The guardsman who had held the girl then ceased to support her. She made a little cry. The weight of her upper body was then on the palms of her hands, her arms stiff. Her ankles were locked to the rack. This helped to support her weight. Her ankles protruded behind the rack. Her feet were small and pretty. She looked about, helplessly.

The typical hood provides
hand and arm security with the advantages of the blindfold. Most body hoods,
unlike many common slave hoods, do not have provisions for an internal
gag. The prisoner, of course, may be gagged before being hooded. The body
hood, like the slave hood, tends to keep a female docile. This may be a
particular advantage early in her training, when she may not yet fully
understand her new nature and its meaning. Another advantage of the body
hood is that it is intriguing and attractive on a woman. baring her legs
but usually, unless the arms are also intriguingly bared, concealing the
rest of her, this sort of thing exciting male interest, and yet in virtue
of the predominant conealment afforded, making her seizure less likely
than if she were lying about more exposed in common bonds. Slavers in moving
their wares through the streets, sometimes place them in body hoods. To
be sure, it is
more common to throw a cloak or sheet, which
might be of various lengths, over their heads, this usually being fastened
on them by means of a cord or strap looped once or twice about the neck
and fastened under the chin. in many cities free women object to the marching
of naked slaves through the streets. Still, even though the girls may be
covered with cloaks or sheets, the men will usually come to watch, and
call out to them, and jeer, and such. It is understood, of course that
the girls, beneath those cloaks or sheets, are slave naked. It is sometimes
very trying, though also perhaps very instructive, for a new slave, perhaps
a woman of a conquered city, to be marched thusly through the streets,
stung with pebbles, pinched and slapped, subjected to the most intimate
forms of raillery, jocolsity and abuse.

Bondage Knot
a loose knot tied in a slave's long hair near
her right cheek or before her right shoulder that has two meanings, depending
on how it is used. If a slave girl approaches a Master and
kneels naked before him, looping the knot herself, she silently begs for
use. If a Master ties the knot himself, notably during a time
of battle, it is his way of marking the girl as taken if he must continue
on, leaving her bound behind.

"You look well with your hands behind your back," he said.
I looked up.
"Your hands are now bound behind your back," he said.
"Yes, Master," I said. I must now keep my hands or wrists in contact with one another and behind my back. I was now "bound by the master’s will." I could not separate my hands or wrists from one another now without permission. There are many ways, of course; of "binding by the master’s will." The behind-the-btack position is one of the simplest and loveliest. This exposes the girl, frames the beauty of her breasts and makes her helpless. That the bond is a "will bond," too, makes clear to her the power of the master over her. Another common bond of this sort is when the girl must kneel, grasping her ankles. Another is when she is forced to sit and reach forward between her legs, passing the right arm from inside the right thigh to outside and beneath the right calf, to grasp the right ankle from the outside, and the left arm from inside the left thigh to outside and beneath the left calf, to grasp the left ankle in the same way. In this position she is helpless and cannot rise. Too, after a time, it becomes apparent to her that she also cannot close her legs. A girl may be kept in such bonds for hours. Too, of course, she may be tied in such positions. There are also, of course, different ways of decreeing such bonds. For example, with the behind-the--back-hands-tied bond in which I had been placed I could have been informed, but had not been, that my shoulders were pulled tightly back, which, of course, forces the breasts forward for the pleasure, or attentions, of the master.
"I think I shall find it difficult to remove the belt," I smiled, "bound as I am."
He stood close to me, and put his arms about me. "I shall remove it," he said.
Tupita came then through the beaded curtain. She glanced at me. She was not pleased to see me in the arms of Mints, who was a desirable male, and first among my master’s men. Capture Tie
a single narrow cord used for binding a slave

She scrambled to her knees.
Her eyes were wild. She could not move her hands together. They were held apart, by her waist. The current position of her left hand was just above her left hip, and of her right hand, just above her right hip. A single narrow cord bound her. The tie is accomplished as follows: One wrist is tightly encircled by the cord and bound within it, about eighteen inches in from one end of the cord. The longer length of the same cord is then taken about her belly and the other wrist is then tied within it, on the other side of her body, leaving some eighteen inches of cord on the other side of the tie. The cord is then drawn back about her belly and the two free ends tied together behind her back, this being done in such a way that the bond is quite snug. The result is that her hands are held apart, on opposite sides of her body, and that neither hand can reach a knot, either at a wrist or behind the back. This tie, it might be noted, positions a girl's hands quite near areas of likely predation by a captor. But, too, because of it, perhaps to her acute frustration, so near, and yet so far, she finds that she is absolutely incapable of interfering with any attentions to which he chooses to subject her. The waist tie, too of course, in a female, given her breasts, cannot be slipped. It is a common capture tie. She looked up at us, gasping. A circular, overlapping pin had been spread and one end inserted through her septum, drawn through and allowed to spring back, forming a nose ring. From this dangled a looped, closed cord, the loop about eighteen inches in length.

Handle Tie
a girl's ankles are ties together with
12 inches between them and her wrists are bound before her with a lengthy
tether; this tether is then drawn between her legs and tied about her neck
forming a 'handle' that a Free Person can use to lead her.
Her fur boots were pulled off and her ankles were linked by leather thongs, she had good ankles; the leather permitted them a separation of some twelve inches; the tether on her wrists was then taken between her legs and then lifted up behind her, where its loose end was tied about her neck. The linking of the ankles prevents slipping of the handle tie, and controls the length of her stride when she is put on it. A given pressure on the handle tie, exerted through the strap at the back, permits it to function as a choke leash; a different pressure permits her to be hurried along on her toes. They coud not rise to their feet. Each wore a crude, single-position, greenwood leg-spreader.
"It is a present to me, from my friends, the Dust Legs," laughed Grunt, "the leaders of those who followed us."
"A thoughtful present." I said. "Now they are yours."
"And a rich joke it is, too," laughed Grunt. "See?"
"Yes," I said.
Max and Kyle Hobard wore leg-spreaders. These are commonly reserved by the red savages for their white female slaves. They wore single-position leg-spreaders. One ankle, by thongs threaded through a pierced end, is fastend tightly to one end of the sturdy spreader. The other ankle is then pulled to a corresponding position at the other end of the pole where, by means of another thong passed through another hole, drilled at that point in the spreader, it is fastened securely in place. More sophistacted spreaders have several positions. In the simplest case a series of holes is drilled in the pole and the girl's ankles are merely fastened on the pole at whatever separation the master desires. In the more
sophisticated devices, two, or even three poles or boards are used, which can slide apart, and are fastened at given points by pegs or thongs. In this latter sort of device the girl's ankles, fastened at the far ends of the pole or board, need not be untied and retied. One may then, in accordance with ones's moods, and at one's convenience, regulate the distance between them.
These spreaders may be used in a variety of ways, of course. Sometimes they are used for the wrists the pole or board then usually behind the girl's back. Too, they may be used in concert with other devices. In the lodges of Warrior Societies, for example, as a portion of the amusements accompanying a feast, a girl may be richly used in one, her hands tied behind the back of her neck, in the draw cords, looped once or twice about her neck, of the sack drawn over her head. In this way she fears all the men of the society for she does not know who it was who was the most cruel to her. Too, she regards all the men of the society with mixed feelings of sensual uneasiness, for she does not know which one among them it was who made her yield most ecstatically, most abjectly, as a slave. This is thought good by the men for the camaraderie of the society.

It had not occurred to me that a girl could be held within those small confines. Indeed, in the half-darkness of the lamp-lit passage I had hardly noticed the box. It was about four feet long and three feet wide, with a depth of perhaps eighteen inches. It was of steel and opened from the top. In the lid, at each, there was a circle, about five inches in diameter, of penny-sized holes. It was locked shut, secured by two flat, steel bars, perpendicular to its long axis, padlocked, in front, in place.
"I will be good!? wept the girl, from within.
"It is a slave box," said Hermidorous.

Ho-Tu was a short, corpulent man, broad-shouldered,
stripped to the waist. He had quick black eyes set in a shaven head, the
threads of a mustache dangled at the sides of his mouth. About his neck
he wore a rude ornament, a loose iron chain bearing, also in iron, a medallion,
the crest of the House of Cernus. He had a broad leather belt, with four
buckles. To this belt there hung the sheath of a hook knife, which was
buckled in the sheath, the strap passing over the hilt. Also, clipped to
the belt, was a slave whistle, used in issuing signals, summoning slaves,
and so on. On the other side of the belt, there hung a slave goad, rather
like the tarn goad, except that it is designed to be used as an instrument
for the control of human beings rather than tarns. It was, like the tarn
goad, developed jointly by the Caste of Physicians and that of the Builders,
the Physicians contributing knowledge of £he pain fibers of human
beings, the networks of nerve endings, and the Builders contributing certain
principles and techniques developed in the construction and manufacture
of energy bulbs. Unlike the tarn goad which has a simple on-off witch in
the handle, the slave goad works with both a switch and a dial, and the
intensity of the charge administered can be varied from an infliction which
is only distinctly unpleasant to one which is instantly lethal. The slave
goad, unknown in most Gorean cities, is almost never used except by professional
slavers, probably because of the great expense involved; the tarn goad,
by contrast, is a simple instrument. Both goads, interestingly, emit a
shower of yellow sparks when touched to an object, a phenomenon which,
associated with the pain involved, surely plays its role in producing aversion
to the goad, both in tarns and men.
