Biography

Native Montrealer born from two francophone parents, Mister Weyes is naturally drawn towards the visual arts from an early age, drawing and painting, his first passions. Growing up in a predomin-antly anglophone neighbourhood shapes the little french kid's character influencing the man and the artist, allowing him to absorb and gain understanding on the two distinct cultures and languages of Quebec.

An autiodidactic student, he prefers the tutelage of books, paying little attention to the often boring, condescending and moralistic speeches of self-righteous high-school teachers. Around this time, the seeds of poetry are planted in his mind through a touching poem written by his sister.

Although coming from a loving home, deteriorating social interactions, delinquent tendencies and self-destructive behaviour causes his turbulent teenage years to be abruptly interrupted when in-carcerated, placed, misplaced and tossed around in juvenile rehabilitation centers administered by the so-called "Youth Protection Services". A very painful experience greatly affecting his personality and view of the world, which caused a first wave of litterary creativity, spawning
"Colours" among others, at age 14.

In 1996, after 2 years of government funded, lpsychological torture and institutionalized brainwashing in various juvenile corrections facilities, he is finally released. With a regained interest in academic education, receives his high school diploma in 1997. The vinyl hunter's first attempts writing rhymes and studio work experiences making Hip Hop beats are made later the same year.  At age 18, instead of continuing his college education, takes on a full-time job, meeting Manchilde from the
"Buttababees" and his first in-depth studio sessions are initiated.

A great musical and lyrical influence, Manchilde unknowingly acts as a mentor and role model for the young artist. To this day, Weyes views these studio sessions as "Hip Hop 101". After an ext-ended stretch of procrastination, he appears for the first time on stage for
"Coco Caf" at the Jello Bar, in May 2001, a definite step towards performance poetry.

Martial Arts enthousiast, he quickly learns Portuguese on a trip to Brazil destined to further his
Capoeira Angola training. Back from the enlightening voyage, first appearance on-stage with "Kalmunity" Vibe Collective. Has since appeared in many different venues accross town.

Frequently performing multi language Spoken Word pieces, being fluent in French, English and Brazillian Portuguese, with functional knowledge of Spanish, the poet integrates Hip Hop perform-ances in his multilingual act.

While working on a first book and demo tape, Weyes also studies at
"Concordia University" and volunteers at "CKUT radio", Co-hosting "Movement Museum" along with Fon and Lauren.
