The Color Purple Projects
Project Six: Drama: A Five-Minute Celie Monologue
Instructions
Choose a passage from The Color Purple that you feel would make excellent and poignant material for a monologue. Either xerox this section or copy it down. Begin to add stage directions and notes to yourself. What can you do to bring this piece alive to an audience?
Decide on what clothes and props that you are going to use for this particular section. Consider why you have chosen these props and costumes. Will they enhance or detract from the overall impact of the monologue.
Attempt to memorize some of your monologue. Rehearse in front of a mirror or in front of a friend or relative. Ask for input. Adjust accordingly.
Write a one-page introduction to your script. This should explain why you chose this particular section and why you made the decisions that you made. It should be typed, MLA style.
Print out the final copy of your script. There is no page limit to the script. It should be typed with an MLA header. Please do not e-mail it to me. Be proactive!
Be prepared to present. Click on rubric to make sure that you have met all of the requirements.
