The Color Purple Projects
Project Two: Intertextuality: The Dave Pelzer Trilogy
Instructions
Read one or more of the books from Dave Pelzer’s trilogy: A Child Called “It,” The Lost Boy, and A Man Named Dave. Consider how the character of Dave Pelzer relates to the character of Celie or Nettie. Record your thoughts while or after you have read one or more of the books.
Consider at least three important similarities between these characters and brainstorm an outline for your comparisons. You should show your outline to me, so that I might offer you suggestions.
Compose a four-page paper that compares the two characters. You should have a clear thesis and direct quotes. Please consult your Brief Holt Handbook for help. If you have misplaced your book, you may borrow one from J-88. Please let me know as soon as possible. Your paper must be in MLA format.
Proofread. Spell check each draft of your paper. You may conference with me at any point to receive further comments on your progress.
Print out your final copy. Please do not e-mail it to me. Be proactive!
Be prepared to present. Click on rubric to make sure that you have met all of the requirements.
