During this unit, you will read The Color of Water and select one of the six projects listed below. Each project not only targets different areas of literacy, but also targets different areas of interest. Select the project that fits both you and your interpretation of the story. Introduction

James McBride's The Color of Water is autobiography of his live that is interwoven with a memoir of his mother's. McBride remarked that he could not tell his life story without telling that of his mother's. The story is full of a host of characters and spans many decades. Pay particular attention to to James's identity development, as he comes to terms with his complex heritage.
