Lord of the Flies Projects
Project Five: Essay Writing
Instructions
Locate at least three examples in Lord of the flies that counter William Golding's claim that humans, when left to their own devices, will destroy each other. Any human good deeds will suffice. For example, there is the scene where Simon and Ralph build huts on the beach. Write down these page numbers and examples word for word. Consider why each of these acts of goodness or kindness does not last.
Make an outline of your essay. You should follow the five-paragraph format with an example in each body paragraph. In your outline, you should have a skeletal representation of what you are going to write about. Remember that your thesis will explain why human good deeds are not enough on the island through three examples in Lord of the Flies.
Start typing/writing your essay. Follow MLA format. You should have no more or less than three pages. Please show me drafts, so that you may be better prepared with your final copy.
Read your essay out loud to yourself and to others. Listen for any awkwardness and address through revision. On the day of your presentation, you will read your essay in its entirety before the class.
Print out your final copy. Proofread. Spell check. Please do not e-mail your final copy. Be proactive!
Be prepared to present your essay. Click on rubric to make sure that you have met all requirements.
