Lord of the Flies Projects
Project Four: Volunteering and Philanthropy
Instructions
Research local organizations that service the community and are excellent examples of human good deeds in the world. Find at least three organizations. Contact them to see if you may volunteer. You must find one where you can volunteer.
Before you arrive and volunteer, research the purpose of the organization. What service(s) does it provide? How old is it? What do you hope to learn about this place during your volunteer experience? How does this organization respond to inhumanity in the world?
Make sure that you hold conversations about the organization while volunteering? Ask them about the challenges that they face and how they address them. Think about how the experience makes you feel and remember to write down your thoughts after you are finished. You may take pictures if you wish.
Write down all of your observations and thoughts. Respond to how your understanding of human good deeds and their impact on the world has changed from this volunteer experience. Will you volunteer at this organization again? If so, why? If not, why?
Type up your observations, thoughts. You should have at least three pages of information. You may organize in multple ways. At a minimum, you should have one paragraph that focuses on why you chose the organization, one that focuses on your actual experience, and one that focuses on your reflections on human good deeds. Ultimately state your viewpoint on human good deeds. Do humans naturally lean toward such actions? Feel free to include photographs.
Be prepared to present. Click on rubric to make sure that you have met all of the requirements.
