Lord of the Flies Projects

Project Three: Backyard Camping

Instructions

  • Camp out in your backyard for a night. Plan accordingly and consider all of the essentials that you will need. Bring a notebook, looseleaf on which to write and a camera to snap shots for your presentation.
  • You will keep a journal. Write your first entry before you leave. Talk about what you have done to prepare for this trip. Anticipate what you expect to encounter while camping. Reflect on why you feel there is inhumanity in Lord of the Flies.
  • Write your second entry after you have set up camp. Describe any difficulties that you have had so far. Consider how you might survive at this site without supplies. Again, reflect on why you feel there is inhumanity in Lord of the Flies. Have your feelings changed at all?
  • Write your third entry before you go to sleep--or at least try to go to sleep. How would you describe your experience so far? Are you afraid of anything at this hour? Respond to why you feel that the boys on the island were so afraid of a non-existant, physical "beastie."
  • Write your fourth and final entry the next morning, either before you pack your things or after you have arrived home. Reflect on everything that happened. What did you struggle with? What did you enjoy? How do you feel physically and emotionally? Lastly, how has your view of why inhumanity occurs in Lord of the Flies changed? Type or neatly write your entries. You may include photographs to enhance your presentation.
  • Be prepared to present. Click on rubric to make sure that you have met all of the requirements.
  • Submit to iNote
