Atlea's Diary
Month 6
Day 13
**A sevenday after being searched**

So much has happened since I last wrote in this diary! The most exciting things of my whole life, too. It started out about a sevenday and a half ago, when Firestone Weyr drummed the Healer Hall with news of their Weyrwoman's dragon Lisanth clutching. All us apprentices were very excited, because they also sent a message stating that they would Search all the Halls and Holds for Candidates. Four days later, the green dragon came.
It landed in the courtyard of our Hall (I shouldn't really say that anymore) with a flourish. We were all hanging out the windows of the Hall, and the Masters were all yelling at us to get back inside to finish our lessons. Normally, we would have, but not this time. Well, at least until Racath, the dragon, swung her head in our direction. Then we all ducked our heads inside.
It was just lucky that later that day, while the dragonrider was still searching, I was sent on an errand by my Master. I, of course, took the long way to get a good view of the magnificent dragon. I was admiring her when a voice floated by me.
"Is this the one, Racath?"
Racath, in a very human gesture, bobbed her head.
The rider turned to me.
"Racath thinks you would be a good candidate. What do you think?"
I stammered a bit, and finally managed:
"Um, are you sure you have the right person?"
I mean, I am ill-tempered, not particularily pretty and am always getting into trouble.
The dragonrider smiled.
"Well, Racath is sure."
Everything after this is in a kind of blur. Nerkila asked for permission from my Masters to take me back to the Firestone Weyr, and though they didn't like it, they agreed. I packed up my things, and all of a sudden was on the dragon waving goodbye to my friends at the Healer Hall.
And then we were
between and I think I may have screamed, but Nerkila made no mention of it, so I can't be sure.
I've been here at the Weyr almost sevenday now. I can't wait for the Hatching. The eggs are hardening, so it might be soon. Wish me luck!
