In class when it is a student's birthday, they get a special pencil from the office, we sing the Happy Birthday song to them, and we also make a class card for the birthday person. For those children who have birthdays in the summer (June, July, August), we celebrate their "Half-birthdays" which are exactly 6 months from the real birthday.
In addition to our classroom birthday procedure, some parents and students like to celebrate birthdays with classmates at school. Please note - this is a completely voluntary option. If you and your child would like to do something for their birthday, you may bring a class set of pencils, erasers, or stickers for each student in the class and they can pass it out at the end of the day. Food is no longer allowed for birthday celebrations. |
