Lady Liberty
by Catherine Q
Eternally silent, she stands, and watches the city awaken, as the harsh and cold shadow of night, flees the soil of a city unshaken. Utterly helpless, she stands as white birds of prey gather 'round, circling the giants in nebulous flight, 'till their raid brings them down to the ground. Visibly shaken, she stands, and closes her eyes in dismay, for she cannot believe, this endevour so grim, that has changed the world today. Quietly cursing, she stands, as she tries to defy the new day, while lovers try to conceptualize, the truth of their lifes gone astray. Silently wondering, she stands, and takes in a city in despair, as ample hands, are struggling to save, fallen angels saying their prayers. Fighting tears, she stands, as sadness pervades every thought, mothers and fathers, persistent to find, their child, whom into this world they brought. Openly crying, she stands, and wishes on days gone by, hoping to find, some light in the dark, as fallen angels take to the sky. Slowly healing, she stands, as angel arms circle her waist, drying her tears and holding her close, waiting for darkness to turn to light.
