V.  PRODUCTIVITY AND PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE.
Teachers use technology to enhance their productivity and professional practice. Teachers:

V-A:
Use technology resources to engage in ongoing professional development and lifelong learning.

Evidence/Artifact 1

North Carolina Public Schools Professional Development

Reflective Statement 1

This artifact is provided through North Carolina for teachers and students to take distance learning courses in technology through a variety of ways.  Through this web site I will be able to engage in ongoing professional development in relation to technology.  Throughout my teaching career I want to stay up to date on the current information relating education.  Because this web site is provided by North Carolina I feel that it will be a great resource to find professional development opportunities so that I can stay engaged with all the new information available to me as a teacher.

Professional Development Announcements From Learn NC

Reflective Statement 2

Learn NC provides announcements about professional development in North Carolina.  This will be a great place to find locations and times of professional development opportunities throughout the state.  I want to use this web site to find opportunities to participate in professional development so that I can stay engaged in lifelong learning.  I want my students to learning and be aware of what is going on around them so I feel that it is very important for me to stay up to date with my education too.

V-B: Continually evaluate and reflect on professional practice to make informed decisions regarding the use of technology in support of student learning.

Learn NC Lesson Plan
"Write On"-"Hooking the Reader"

Reflective Statement 1

For this artifact I chose to use this lesson from Learn NC because the lesson has technology in it that is suppose to support student learning.  I like the idea of this lesson but the students only have the option of using KidPix and Kidspriation it is not a requirement.  I have used both of these technology resources and have found them very useful.  The teacher here says that if the students create a web they can use Kidspiration and if they want to they can type their poem in KidPix.  Because using technology in this lesson is an option I do not believe that it is supporting student learning.
If I were to use this lesson part of the goals of the lesson would be to use KidPix and Kidspriation in the final piece to turn in.  I think using these technology resources could support student learning if actually used in the teaching of the lesson.

Learn NC Lesson Plan
Fractions on Kid Pix

Reflective Statement 2

This lesson from Learn NC also uses technology to support student learning.  In this lesson I believe that the teacher is successful at using technology to support student learning.  The lesson uses KidPix to draw fractions.  In my opinion this is a great lesson for semi concrete fractions.  Throughout the lesson the students are actively working with the KidPix program in order to complete the assignment.  This lesson is really based around the technology being used by the students.
I would like to use this lesson in my classroom when working on fractions.  I believe that using KidPix as a visual aid will help students understand fractions plus it will give them more technology skills.

V-C:
Apply technology to increase productivity.

Evidence/Artifact 1

Classroom Web site

Reflective Statement 1

During my technology class I created a classroom web site.  This artifact is about the productivity of my classroom.  In the web site there are places to post homework, look at the calendar,  class news, and much more.  My plan for this web site in my classroom is to give students and parents a resource to find out what is going on in the classroom so that we can increase our productivity.  I want this web site to be a way to stay in touch with my students and parents so they can feel comfortable to ask me questions and so that they feel they are an important part of the classroom.
The web site can also be added to by students.  I want my students to learn some of their computer skills through this classroom web site.  As the year goes by I want my students to feel that the web site is their web site and a place where they can show their good work and all the wonderful things we are doing in our classroom.  I believe that if they feel they are part of the web site they will refer to it more and increase their productivity.

Evidence/Artifact 2

Mail Merge Letter

Reflective Statement 2

Throughout the year I want to communicate with the parents of my students.  I believe that good communication between the teacher and parents increases the students productivity.  Mail Merge is a great program in Microsoft Word that can produce letters for each individual student.  Mail Merge can have information from Access (database) and Excel (spreadsheet) in it so that parents can see their student's progress.  This artifact would be a great way to send weekly progress letters to parents so hopefully any issues can be solved before they become problems.  I want my students' parents to be involved in their students education so that they can help any way they can, they are very important part of the community in our classroom.

V-D:
Use technology to communicate and collaborate with peers, parents, and the larger community in order to nurture student learning

Evidence/Artifact 1

Classroom Web site

Reflective Statement 1

For this artifact I used my classroom web site.  The web site I think will be great way to communicate and collaborate with peers, parents, and the larger community in order to nurture the learning of the students in my classroom.  The classroom web site will have all types of information about what is going on in the classroom.  The students and I will be adding information to the web site so that peers, parents, and the community can see our progress.
For the classroom web site I would also like to have input from peers, parents, and the community.  I want to know what they want to know about the classroom.  The students in my class are part of the community and I want them to feel like they are important members.  I hope to get response from those around our classroom so that the students feel that what they are learning in the classroom is important and does make a difference.

Evidence/Artifact 2

Newsletter

Reflective Statement 2

For this artifact I choose to use a newsletter that I created in Microsoft Publisher.  This newsletter introduces a unit that I will be teaching.  I would like to create monthly newsletters that keep the parents informed about what is happening in our classroom.  Through the newsletters students can share what is going on in our classroom and tell their parents all about the things they are learning.  My hope for these newsletters is to get more parent involvement and to help nurture the learning of the students in my classroom.
The newsletters I hope to send out will include things like what we are studying, trip we plan to take, school calendar, test/quizzes, projects, and anything relevant to what is going on in our classroom.  I hope that the students will enjoy sharing these letters and the parents will encourage their students learning.
