IV.
ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION.
Teachers
apply technology to facilitate a variety of
effective assessment and evaluation strategies. Teachers:
IV-A: Apply
technology in assessing student learning
of subject matter using a variety of assessment techniques.
Evidence/Artifact 1
Wonder Web
Computer
Based/Classroom Based
Reflective Statement 1
Not only is the Wonder Web a good activity for higher order thinking it
is also a good resource for assessing students learning. The
Wonder Web both computer based and classroom based would be informal
evaluation but would be useful in finding out what the students are
struggling with. When looking at the wonder web I would be
looking
for several questions related to the same topic and if they are
answered or not. I would also look for unanswered questions or
unclear answers. I believe that sometimes students would feel
more comfortable asking their classmates questions and it is good for
them to try and solve each others questions. I also feel that
through this system I can have another way to assess where the students
are in the current lesson topics and where I need to go next.
Evidence/Artifact 2
Rubric Star
Reflective Statement 2
Rubric Star is a technology resource that helps teachers create rubrics
for a variety of different content areas. This web site lets you
create, edit, and save your rubrics online. I know as a beginning
teach I want to use rubrics but need help getting started and this will
be a great resource to help. When teaching I want to assess
my students work in a variety of different ways, I think using this
artifact will help me assess my students work in a fair but different
way. I believe that rubrics are a good way of assessing students'
learning, and with the help of this technology I think that I will be
able to create fair rubrics for my students.
IV-B: Use
technology resources to collect and analyze
data, interpret results, and communicate findings to improve
instructional
practice and maximize student learning.
Evidence/Artifact 1
Gradebook
(Excel)
Reflective Statement 1
Excel from Microsoft provides a great resource for creating an
electronic gradebook. In the Excel program I can average grades,
create graphs, look at certain assignments, look at certain students,
and much more. The gradebook can also be used in a mail merge
letter in Microsoft Word. I also like to color code to keep
organized and using this program makes that so easy. Through the
data that I can view through this program I can find my weakness along
with the class weakness and work on improving my instructional
practices and maximize student learning. I think that this type
of gradebook would also be great for parent conferences so that you
could have the averages and other numbers as current as possible and
hopefully improve student learning through the support of the
parents.
Evidence/Artifact 2
Web CT
(computer bases quizzes and test)
Reflective Statement 2
Web CT is a computer based program that I have used throughout my
college career and would like to use a similar program in my
classroom. In the program you can communicate with your
classmates and teacher, take quizzes/test, summit work, and get
information about the class. In the county that I will be
finishing my Internship in we have a lot of snow, a program like this
would be a great way of staying in touch with my students. Also
it
would be a good way to give quizzes/test with quick feed back that
would also allow me to see the data in a variety of ways.
Students would also be able to go back and review their own work so
they could use it to study in the future. I believe that a Web CT
program would be a great way to interpret assessment data and to
maximize student learning.
IV-C:Apply
multiple methods of evaluation to
determine students' appropriate use of technology resources for
learning,
communication, and productivity.
Evidence/Artifact1
Learn NC
Lesson Plan
In Full Bloom
Reflective Statement 1
I choose this lesson as one of my artifacts because of the evaluation
methods through the use of technology resources. This lesson
includes a large variety of content areas, technology resources, and
evaluation. I would like to use this lesson because of all the
appropriate uses of technology and other content areas. Students
are working with technology in almost every part of the lesson.
The students will be working with KidPix, Excel, Fact Monster, and
Publisher. Through these technology resources students will be
able to produce work, learn, and communicate what they have
learned. Not only will I be able to evaluate the students on the
other subjects I will have lots of technology activities to evaluate.
Each of the technology resources used for this lesson will help me see
how my students are doing in their learning about technology.
Prior to teaching this lesson the students would already have
experience with these technology resources so that they could use them
with ease for this lesson and I could evaluate their use of the
resources.
Evidence/Artifact 2
Database Activity For Plant Unit
Reflective Statement 2
Databases can be used for a variety of evaluations to determine
learning, communication, and productivity of students use of
technology. In this artifact students are using the database as
part of an experiment. They are using it as a chart to keep track
of plant growth and then will use it to study their data. In my
classroom the students would not only be using the database to track
plant growth they would be building their computer skills and providing
a good source of evaluation.
When working on their plant experiment students will need to use the
appropriate knowledge of databases to complete the assignment.
The students would create their own databases so that I could have
individual data on the use of the technology. Also in the future
databases like this could be used for other types of evaluation of
content and more computer skills.
