| UK top 40: What is brewing? Week 9 This weeks mid week chart figures reveal what we already know: That unrelenting TV coverage can, at the moment, ensure a huge number one hit. HMV have already released a press release stating that they confidently expect Mr Will Young's reworking of Evergreen to pass the 1 million mark, beating, both Hearsay and Band Aid's "Do they know its Christmas'. Also of interest to Miss Popmander is Jamiroquai wonderful Love Foolosophy. I am a true fan, and am only too aware that if this was a usual sales week, Mr Jay Kay would score a high top ten entry. But what chance does a innovative and talented approach pop music have against the likes of Pop Idols and Westlifes. Ho hum. What is of interest however is an unconfirmed rumour that Mr Will Young's debut album is being assisted by the legendary Burt Bacharach, who is a Miss Popmander favourite, and Miss Cathy Dennis, former mediocre pop queen and current writer of some of the best pop in the chart. She wrote Miss Kylie Mingues 'Can't get you out of my head', and is responsible for plenty more recent classics. If Mr Will Young can, who had some years of experience and education to fall back on, can insist on a certain amount of creative freedom, I believe there is a chance that he could shake of the Pop Idol Stigma. If I were in his position I would hire a team of laywer right now and distance myself from the show as quickly as possible. Burt Bacarach, though seems a good start. On a less pleasant note, it apears that Miss Victoria Beckham's 'A Mind of Its Own' may disappear from the top 40 all together after only 2 weeks in the chart. I do feel this is shame, as this was an excellent single. Meanwhile I would be interested to hear any news to clear up the rumours about whether Mrs Victoria Beckham will release a third single from her underated album. I hope so but there are plenty of different stories floating around at the moment. Given the lack of other Spice Girl news my thought are turning to what Miss Melanie C will be bringing to the table. Any help is greatly appreciated. |
