| Bookmakers offer odds on whether Mr and Mrs David Beckham should call their baby 'Nightclub Toliet' Now is a time of great joy for Mr and Mrs David Beckham, and once again I send my love and congratuations. I suppose that I was not angered or shocked at recent press reports that a certain bookmaker had offered odds on names for the unborn child, complete with lewd suggestions that the baby might be called 'Back Seat' or 'Nightclub Toliet'. Disappointed, I think, is the relevant emotion that I feel, and I regret that at a time of supreme happiness, Mr and Mrs David Beckham and their respective families should be subjected to such unnecessary playground talk. Although I have never met Mr and Mrs David Beckham, I feel confident that this will not affect them in the slightest. They seem so seasoned at weathering ugly insults with grace and dignity, that they may probably laugh too, and simply make a joke of it all. However this incident does prompt me to turn turn my thoughts to how we behave as a people. I see Mr and Mrs David Beckham as truly balanced and lucky individuals, who are clearly in love with one another, and can both count on their families for support. When did we last hear of Mr David Beckham rolling out of a nightclub drunk? Or when have we ever seen Mrs Victoria Beckham seriously flirting with another man? These things have not happened, and will not be common because they are family oriented people. They also support each other's professional careers in public which suggests a true unity behind closed doors. Instead of sneering we should be appauding them for promoting sensible family values in the face of adversity. Indeed the media, companies with shareholderss, and people in general should be happy, or least respectful of their contented family oriented status. |
