| So, what is this "FFA" thing? .:. FFA is a national youth organization focused around leadership and agriculture. Through FFA, students develop skills such as public speaking, communication, organization and much more. Throughout the year, members compete in various Career Development Events (CDE's) for the chance to win state and even national titles as well as having a Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE), which ranges in a wide variety of projects that can include raising a livestock animal to forestry to floriculture and others. Members also get the chance to travel to places such as Washington DC for the Washington Leadership Conference and meet other FFA members from around the country. FFA is a great opportunity to meet new people, earn money and there are many scholarships available through the FFA program. What is a CDE? .:. A CDE, or Career Development Event, is a contest designed to test a student's knowledge and skill in a particular area. There are many different CDE's, such as Meat and Livestock Evaluation, Ag. Sales and Service, Mechanics, Prepared and Extemporaneous Public Speaking, even Parliamentary Procedure! Students compete at local, district, and state levels for the chance to compete at the National Convention held in October. What are the lasting benefits of FFA? .:. The skills you learn in FFA will stick with you for the rest of your life. In FFA, you will learn to speak in front of an audience, problem-solve and succeed at things you once thought unachievable. You will learn to take charge and become a leader, and these are all skills that will bring you success in whatever career path you happen to choose, whether it be in agriculture or otherwise. |
