Castle Adventures
We recently went to the castle Neuschwanstein located near the border of Germany and Austria. It was absolutely beautiful. The castle was built on the edge of the Swiss Alps and was high on a mountain in a secluded area. It was built by King Ludwig of Bavaria in the mid-1800s. Unfortunately, the King mysteriously drowned before construction completed and only a handful of rooms were finished including some servants' quarters, a kitchen, the King's bedroom, a dining room,a chapel room, and a theatre for the performance of plays. Unfortunately, we couldn't take any pcitures inside the castle...it was such a site! Elaborate gold chandeliers (estimated at about 5,000 pounds each) decorated with hundreds of jewels hung from many of the rooms. The King's bed was a sight in itself. It was made of hand carved dark wood with hundreds of steeples and castle-esque images protruding at the top. I can't say enough about Neuschwanstein. It was a great adventure.

Through the entrance is a courtyard enclosed by the castle walls and a large drop-off overlooking a waterfall.

The King built a bridge crossing a high drop that viewed a beautiful river with a waterfall. This was taken from the bridge (that I didn't go on..too high!!). Notice how turquoise the water is (well, it looks a bit greener in the picture).
