SC202-0_ , Mrs. Marta, Room 406

PREREQUISITES: Biology 1 or Living Biology or permission of the teacher. Chemistry is highly recommended but NOT required.

DESCRIPTION: Human Anatomy and Physiology is the study of the parts of the human body and their function. (how they work) This course involves the memorization of parts of the body. This class is highly recommended for those students planning careers in any of the health sciences, forensics, law, PE/Health education, athletics and art.

REQUIRED MATERIALS: Notebook (A loose leaf with pockets is recommended to hold both notes taken in class, handouts and returned homework assignments.) A small cheap calculator, especially if the student has shaky math skills. Pens and pencils as needed in any legible color EXCEPT red. "The Anatomy Coloring Book" by Wynn Kapit/Lawrence M. Elson published by McGraw-Hill(approximate price $16.50) is available to purchase at the UOG Book Store or on www.Amazon.com . This was an adopted text by DOE, but they have not supplied them. There will be assignments in this book starting approximately 2nd Quarter. Honors class also need Physiology Coloring by Kapit. (at the same price)and needed in about December. These are one of the most important tools in helping the student memorize and understand the human body. A lab contribution of $5.00 per semester ia needed to provide dissection materials and consumable supplies for class lab activities.

GRADING POLICY: All assignments will be graded. All assignments are posted on the website.(see below) Assignments with an asterisk have been assigned already. Key terms, Check Your Recall questions, worksheets, quizzes, lab assignments and tests will be given. Some reports, projects and article reviews will also be required quarterly. All assignments are equally weighted. Simple percentage grade will be calculated from the above assignments. Updated current grades and completion of assignments will be posted weekly in class and on the website for the student and parent to review. Due to power surges that adversely affect my computer the student needs to make sure credit for each assignment is posted on the computer grade sheets. If there is an error it is the student's responsiblity to show me the completed returned assignment and so the grade correction will be made. The student should keep all returned assignments until the end of the semester. You may view student's grades on the internet at the URL http://geocities.com/missmartas/ and click on the class period he/she attends (2 or 4). Students are listed by their last 4 digits of their SSN/student number. The grades are updated a minimum of weekly. Zeroes indicate that the assignment has not been turned in and is overdue. A student's personal grade sheet printout will be sent home every 4-5 weeks in order to obtain the mandatory parent signature and returned. Some tests or assignments will also be sent home for a parent signature. On special request these sheets can be sent home weekly with the student for parent signature and return. You may also call the school at 642-2106 and leave a message for me or email me at [email protected] to request or review your child's progress.

HOW TO PASS THIS CLASS: I have never flunked a student that has completed and turned in all assignments and attended regularly. When a student fails to turn in assignments I have no clue as to what the student does or doesn't understand. From a student's mistakes I often find that a topic needs to be retaught in a different way for better comprehension. Without the student's work I do not know they do not understand. When a student misses classes, they are unable to understand the material and fall behind. If a student misses 6 days they receive no credit (see Board Policy 411) No credit=no graduation. If a student over 16 years of age misses 25 days of school they are dropped from the school roster for that school year. Students under 16 are automatically referred to the juvenile court system for excessive absences.

When a student misses a class he/she is required to make up the work immediately. He/she can get the assignment from a classmate or from the webpage. Do all the assignments as soon as possible. A missing assignment will drop a grade very quickly. Don't put it off!
