How many of you Manson and NIN Lovers have seen LOST HIGHWAY ot THE DOOM GENERATION?

"From the director/screenwriter of Twin Peaks and Dune comes this post-modern film noir. The LOST HIGHWAY is a journey through the unknown... Violent, sexy and funny; a classic Lynchian nightmare."

I think that LOST HIGHWAY is, one of the most controversial films ever created. It was also controversial in the way that these things never seem to happen in real life, or if they do, they never happen on a day to day basis. The director, David Lynch is a pure genious.

The soundtrack creates an errie, athmospheric senario. Put well together by the God of music making, Mr Trent Reznor.

LOST HIGHWAY, for me, is very similar to THE DOOM GENERATION. Both of the films are set around one night. There are important icons in the films; and just the storylines in particular, are very detailed. The story of LOST HIGHWAY is very basic. Yet, with its powerful metaphoric and eerie scenes, it transforms the once simple film, into a more complex film.

In THE DOOM GENERATION, I was struck by two things. Firstly, everything came up to six dollars and sixty-six cents. Hence, "THE NUMBER OF THE BEAST" rightly said by Iron Maiden. The second point was that the guy who died, Amy Blue's boyfriend, (Rose McGowan) was wrapped in the American Flag, while the American National Anthem played.

In LOST HIGHWAY, I liked the fact that Pullman morphed into Getty. Arquette was indeed, the blond and the dark haired woman. How did Pullman kill Arquette? He didn't. Yet it was shown in the videotape that was delivered to their house. How does the little guy fit into all of it? Who is he? What is his role?

My point of view, shows that maybe this is related to the whole Heaven and Hell beliefs. Think about it logically; and try to work it out for yourself. But since this is my essay, let me do the thinking out for you. The man could represent God. Since he is always around the place and God is like that too. Or he could be an Angel figure, watching over the characters in the film. How about him being the figure of Right Judgement? He always seems to pop up at times of a dark shadow of doubt. Take what you feel best suits him. Or maybe you have a better idea?

Imagery is a powerful tool. As Lucas in EMPIRE RECORDS says, "Always, play with their minds". The mind is the key to a person, scientifically speaking. Once you can open that in any person, you have the key to the entire world.

The story of LOST HIGHWAY is very basic. Yet, with its powerful metaphoric and eerie scenes, it transforms the once simple film, into a wider context of film.
