10 Reasons to Involve Your Child in
Volunteer Activities!
1. One of these days... your child will be a teenager, and then one day your teenager will be an adult!  Did you know that an adult is more likely to repeat volunteer services if they started as a teenager?  So what does that say about our children??  Take the Hint!
2. Harness Interests! Volunteerism helps many people find their paths in life.  Does your child enjoy animals? See if they can help out by walking dogs or cats at the vet.  Do they want to find the cure for cancer?  Sign up to walk with them at your local Relay-For-Life.  Help them to do something that they want to do, and they will enjoy it even more!
3. Little Hands, Big Hearts! Okay, Okay... they're young!  So?  Children aren't selfish (unless it's playtime!) and they have the same human need to give that we have.  Take them to a food kitchen and help them dish out the servings.  Help them make Valentine's Day cards for the shut-ins or Nursing Home residents.  Maybe they dont understand it now, but they will thank you for it later.
4. Electricity! Kids could run the local electricity company on all of their energy, right?  Then why not harness that energy into an activity that does good?  Help them to clean up a local park and plant a tree!  When they're a teenager they can show their friends what they did, and when they have families of their own they can sit under it and picnic in the shade that came from a labor of love.
5. Tested and Proved! If those options arent good enough for you, then how about this one?  I'm the little girl who volunteered and now does so as a teenager... and I'm the little girl who found my interest in politics through voluntary leadership activities.  I had that big heart that handed out cards to the people at nursing homes, and I planted that tree in the local park that I can look at today and say "Hey guys, look what I did."  And who do I have to thank for these memories?  My mother.
