About the Author
Hello, my career began when I was 6 years old.  I use to line up all my stuffed animals and teach them everyday.  My poor stuffed animals would get in trouble for just staying still.  Then when I was 11, I started babysitting.  After that, I had taken a class called Project Help.  I was a teacher aide for a Kindergarten Teacher.  I enjoyed working with those kids and making crafts.  Then when I graduated from High School, I had no idea what to do with my life.  My Dad called me and told me that I received a scholarship.  So I enrolled in college and they asked me  what my major was going to be.  I didn't know what to say, the only thing I enjoyed doing was working with kids.  So I became a teacher.  I struggled, my junior year I became pregnant and had a hard time making the grade.  But I graduated, and it only had taken one extra semester to do it.  Then I packed my bags and my toddler and I  moved to Texas.  That was hard, the children that I taught, did not speak English, and I did not speak Spanish.  But at the end of the year, they learned to speak English, and I failed at speaking Spanish.  The only way I was able to teach them English was by songs and a lot of creative pictures.  After that, I moved around.  I taught Kindergarten and 2nd grade in Nevada for seven years.  Finally, I was able to come back to Colorado.  I taught 4th grade for one year and this will be my 5th  year of teaching Kindergarten.
I work with a wonderful staff that is very motivated.  The 3rd grade teacher had taken a class on Balanced Literacy.  We were very excited, that we adopted the Balanced Literacy Program.  After taking classes and teaching it for a year, some of us traveled to New Zealand.  It was such a marvelous experience.  The kids in New Zealand were great.  They really enjoyed their morning tea.  They were so involved in their education, that it was remarkable.  I brought home so many wonderful ideas about their reading and writing program, that I will discuss some of the components in my web site.
